Importing or exporting hazardous waste? We’ve released new guidance

The movement of hazardous waste into, out of, or through New Zealand requires a permit from the EPA.

We have just released new guidance, and application forms. You can find out more on our website.

New Fungicide, GF-3308 open for submissions

Dow Agrosciences (NZ) limited have applied for approval to manufacture GF-3308, which contains fenpicoxamid. Fenpicoxamid is a new active ingredient to New Zealand.

Submissions closing soon for Paraquat

The EPA is reassessing paraquat looking to further restrict the use of some paraquat-containing substances to manage the risks to people and the environment. Paraquat is included in the EPA’s priority chemical list.

The submission period was extended, and submissions now close at 5pm on 30 April 2019.

For more information or to make a submission, visit our website.

Hydrofluorocarbon permits

Applications for special permits for the import of hydrofluorocarbons close on 1 July 2019, and 1 September 2019 for grandparented permits.

From 1 January 2020, all imports, transhipments, and exports of specified hydrofluorocarbons will require a permit from the EPA. You need to apply in 2019 for these permits.

If you export hydrofluorocarbons in the calendar year (from 2020 onwards) you may be eligible for an exporter’s import permit to replace the quantity exported. Export permits, exporter’s import permits, import permits for recycled hydrofluorocarbons, and exemptions for transhipments may be applied for in 2020.

Submissions closing soon for Meteor

AgriNova NZ Limited are seeking a reassessment to reduce the maximum application rate control, re-evaluate the restricted entry interval for workers, and reduce the buffer zone restrictions for Meteor, a substance used to thin pip fruit.

Submissions close at 5pm on 1 May 2019.
