China INsights - INseries video

GWRDC’s China Insights presentation of the latest research on Chinese consumer wine preferences, and what this means for wine businesses, is now available online.

Hear from Professor Larry Lockshin from the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute for Marketing Science and marketing strategist Angie Bradbury from Dig&Fish on the outcomes of the research and how to use them in wine businesses. Margaret River wine industry forum

GWRDC invites you to a Margaret River wine industry forum

Thursday 22 August 2013 at 5:30pm.

The forum will provide an opportunity to discuss future directions and priorities for research, development and extension in the grape and wine sector.

The forum will be held in the W10 classroom – Margaret River Education Campus, 158 Bussell Highway, Margaret River and will be followed by wine and canapés.

GWRDC spray application workshops

GWRDC is conducting a series of Spray Application workshops in several wine regions across the country in October and November this year.

Dr Andrew Landers, Senior Extension Associate at Cornell University, New York will be delivering workshops in early October in NSW, Victoria and SA.

David Manktelow, Director FreshLearn, will deliver workshops in early November in WA, Victoria, SA, ACT and QLD

The half-day interactiveworkshops will deliver information on spray application with a strong focus on new technologies, improved technologies and an overview of current legislation including spray label changes. Workshops will also include a practical spray application demonstration including spray efficacy assessment.

 

ASVO awards for excellence

Entries for the 2013 ASVO Awards for Excellence are open! Do you know a person who has made a significant contribution to the wine industry? Nominate them before Friday 30 August and then join the ASVO to celebrate the announcement of the winners on Thursday 24 October at the Gala Awards Dinner at the National Wine Centre.

GWRDC will again be the sponsor of the viticulture and oenology papers of the year.

Applications open for Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry

On Wednesday 14 August, applications open for the 2014 Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

GWRDC is the principal sponsor of the viticulture and oenology award. In 2013, Mr Richard Fennessy won the $22,000 Viticulture and Oenology 2013 Science and Innovation Award for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to explore the influence of climate and variety on the effectiveness of ‘cold soak’ (pre-fermentation cold maceration).

The Awards aim to encourage science, innovation and technology in rural industries and help to advance the careers of young scientists and innovators through national recognition of their research ideas. Recipients receive up to $22,000 to undertake a project on an emerging scientific issue or innovative activity over twelve months.

AWRI winemaking calculators go mobile

The ‘Winemaking calculators’ app is one of the most popular tools on the AWRI’s website and it receives an average of 19,000 hits per year. The tool takes the guess work out of calculation rates over most aspects of wine production. To better support winemakers, the winemaking calculators are now available as a mobile app.
