Click here June 2022 Impact Newsletter CPC Receives $500,000 to Strengthen Mental Health ServicesWith the support of Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, CPC was awarded $500,000 in funding for the Community Recovery and Safety Services Initiative. This funding will boost CPC’s capacity to implement targeted education and outreach to raise community awareness of mental health care needs and connect them to available services and resources.EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong. CPC Youth Awarded 2022 Future Energy Leaders ScholarshipA CPC youth member Min Aung Zaw recently was honored with a scholarship award from the New York State Power Authority and United Neighborhood Houses as part of the 2022 Future Energy Leaders scholarship fund. CPC Brooklyn Senior Services Celebrates Older Americans Month On May 20th, CPC Brooklyn Senior Services organized a special event with arts, crafts, and meals to celebrate Older Americans Month. The event was attended by over 300 older adults, together with Comptroller Brad Lander and Council Member Alexa Avilés. Brooklyn Senior Services Tours Governor’s Island On June 8th, CPC Brooklyn Senior Services partnered with GrowNYC to organize a field trip to Governor’s Island for 40 community members to enjoy the green space and spend quality time with one another. CPC Held a Housing Seminar with United Healthcare On June 1st, CPC held a housing seminar in partnership with United Healthcare. CPC Brooklyn Community Services staff, Albert Li and Emma Li, spoke about subsidized housing, NYCHA, senior housing, and much more. Local Fresh Food Box Program CPC is partnering up with NYU Langone, Brooklyn Grange, and Glynwood to provide community members with an opportunity to enjoy fresh and organic seasonal Chinese vegetables grown on Brooklyn rooftops. CPC Emcees NYC Against Hate Rally After Buffalo Mass Shooting On May 15th, CPC Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer Carlyn Cowen emceed the NYC Against Hate rally at City Hall to denounce the white supremacist attack in Buffalo and to call for more resources to prevent hate and violence. CPC Statement on the NYC FY2022-2023 Adopted BudgetOn June 10th, New York City passed a historic $101 billion budget. CPC is delighted to see critical investments that were made into human and legal service providers, the restoration of community schools, and funding for anti-hate violence programs. However, we are disappointed the budget missed the mark on a number of key areas, including housing preservation and development, homeless services, the human services sector, and education. CPC Joins Care for All Rally On May 31st, CPC joined the Care for All Rally to demand a $10 million investment in the FY23 city budget to ensure that all children and families can receive high-quality childcare, regardless of immigration status. Brooklyn Senior Services Celebrates World Elder Abuse Awareness Day In observance of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, CPC Brooklyn Senior Services accompanied 40 community members to Prospect Park to visit the green market as well as enjoy a picnic in this historic green space. CPC Joins Win Panel Discussion on Advancing Leadership Through Collaboration On May 25th, CPC joined Win, the city's largest provider of family shelter and supportive housing, for a panel discussion. The discussion centered around the AAPI Heritage Month National Theme, “Advancing Leadership Through Collaboration.” CPC Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization CPC strongly opposes the United States Supreme Court's 6-3 decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which effectively overturns the Constitutional right to abortion as established in Roe v. Wade nearly 50 years ago.
