Hope Force Responds to Hurricane Ian: Situation Report #1

September 28, 2022

Hurricane Ian Response

Over the past several days, Hope Force International has been keeping an eye on the development of Hurricane Ian.  With its landfall just a few hours away, it is projected to be an intense Category 4 storm with the potential of reaching Cat 5.  News reports share the severity of the hurricane, projecting storm surges of up to 18 feet and sustained winds of 155 MPH.  It looks to be the worst storm to hit SW Florida in 100 years.

We have been actively preparing for this storm by connecting with local partners and contacts in the Fort Myers and Sarasota area.  Joey Stoltzfus, Director of Disaster Services, is currently enroute to Atlanta to meet up with veteran Hope Force Reservist, George Camp.  They depart first thing Thursday morning, heading toward the Fort Myers area to conduct initial assessments.  All Hope Force Reservists are officially on alert for deployment.

With such a widespread projection of damage expected, we ask God to direct our steps in the midst of such devastating chaos.  Our desire is to do the most good for the most people, and to inspire hope and bring help to those who are in such great need.

Please join us in praying for those in the path of this storm.  We can only imagine their anxiety and concern for homes and property.  Also, pray for Hope Force as we seek to establish our base of operations within the impact zone and how best to respond.

Would you consider a financial donation in support of our Hurricane Ian response efforts?  Your gift will help enable our teams to effectively serve those impacted by this historic event.
