Hi there,

Bucks for Break is here!

If you thought Bucks for Books was fun, wait until you hear this…Bucks for Break! That’s right – this is your chance to win money to help you map out a budget for Spring Break.

Fun on a Budget

It appears the groundhog saw his shadow the other day, which means we’ve got six more weeks of winter ahead of us. However, this is good news if you’re looking for some low-cost fun. Try snowshoeing for some fun on a budget!

New or Used?

Other than your home or education, your car might be one of the most expensive investments that you’ll ever make. Should you buy a new or used car? That’s a question that potential buyers regularly face, with neither answer being completely right or wrong. It all depends on your wants, needs, budget and willingness to deal with risk. I’ve put together a list of pros and cons for both options, with the hope that it will help you make your decision!

Down East tips

What is the importance of practicing good saving habits and building a good rapport with your financial institution? I made my way to Machias to find out with Down East Credit Union's Keri Barnard – a Credit Union Certified Counselor. After a beautiful, scenic drive up the coast on Route 1, I asked Keri for some tips for those 18-25. “I think it’s important that you build relationships with your financial institution. Set up your direct deposit, have your checking account, do your startup loans and build that rapport with them. So when you come in and you need that big purchase, you not only have your credit to back you up, but you have your positive relationship with your financial institution as well.” Watch the video for all of Keri’s tips over on the Young & Free Maine website!

Video: How to Spot Scams

If you use a cellphone or have an email account, you’ve likely been exposed to an attempted scam. In this It's a Money Thing video, Jen takes you on a virtual tour of common frauds and the various tactics scammers use.

Where would your ideal Spring Break location be? I’d love to know!

Take care,
