President Obama and Athena Scholars to Speak at Graduation. Advisory Board Member to Receive Medal of Distinction.

President Barack Obama will deliver the keynote address at Barnard College’s 120th Commencement ceremony on Monday, May 14, at 12:30 p.m. on Columbia University’s South Lawn.  He will address approximately 600 members of the Class of 2012 and receive the Barnard Medal of Distinction, the College’s highest honor. The speech will be broadcast live on Barnard's homepage.

Athena Advisory Board Member and recent Power Talk speaker, Helene Gayle '76, will receive a Barnard Medal of Distinction.

Graduates will also hear from two Athena Scholars: Jessica Blank, SGA President and Jaclyn Daversa, Senior Class President as well as Jolyne Caruso-FitzGerald ’81, Athena Advisory Board Member, chair of the Barnard Board of Trustees and CEO of the Alberleen Group.

Congratulations to the Class of '12 Senior Scholars!

On Wednesday, May 2nd, the Athena Center held its annual Senior Dinner. It is a time not only to congratulate our Senior Scholars on their graduation from the Athena program, but also to welcome them as future alums of the program; to say goodbye to their years at Barnard while wishing them a bright and happy future.

Each graduating Scholar received an Athena pin, a certificate of completion and the designation of "Athena Leadership Scholar" on their official transcripts.

Athena's Year End Party Showcases Student Projects

Over 50 students, faculty, administrators and guests attended the Athena Center's Year End party on Tuesday, May 1st in the Diana Center. Posters displayed around the room show-cased the Athena Scholars' Social Action Projects and many of the seniors were there to ellaborate on their efforts.

Full-Day Financial Fluency Event

On Saturday, June 9th, the Athena Center is hosting a one-day financial fluency event.  Experienced trainers will teach three workshops: 1) Negotiating Your Salary 2) Retirement Planning and 3) Day-to-Day Financial Planning. The day long event costs $299 and includes lunch.  Individual workshops are $139. Discounts available for Barnard Alumnae.
