It has become the norm to put off having children until later in life – the average age at which people have their first child has been creeping up for decades. But having children later increases certain health risks for mother and child. And there are financial implications to take into account, too. So what is the optimum age at which to have a child? Charlotte Walker and Suzannah Williams say that science has a clear answer.
