This document will also set the benchmark for equipment and maintenance, client care, laser and IPL safety and injury reporting. In other news, the AS/NZS 4173:2004 Standard Guide to the safe use of lasers in health care is undergoing a long overdue revision and a new document is expected to be released later in the year. This will be applicable to anyone who uses lasers regardless of context of practice. Upgrade your education now. Are guidance documents, standards and frameworks enforceable? They set the benchmark for safe workplaces. Be warned that if you are ever in a court of law one of the first questions you may be asked by the prosecution is whether you were adhering to industry best practice guidelines and if not, why not? It doesn't matter if they are developed and circulated by an organisation that you feel you don't belong to, they can still be used as evidence of industry best practice and you could be compared against it. Do you have your education sorted?
