DUBC Triumphs at BUCS Regatta

Durham University Boat Club has never been a stranger to success at the BUCS regatta but 2013 will be the the year that none of its members and supporters alike will ever forget.

At this year's event in Nottingham, DUBC grabbed 12 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals and many more high placings across a myriad of events at the regatta.

This placed DUBC not only at the top of the medal table, but they also clinched the Victor Ludorum for the 10th successive year. This record breaking streak makes DUBC the most successful rowing club in BUCS sport history. A huge congratulations to all those involved.

More Success for Women's Football

Winning national titles is one of the hardest things to achieve in University sport and so it is amazing that women’s soccer should become the fourth team this year to defend their title. Having heartbreakingly lost the final of the eleven-a-side version of the game five minutes from the end of extra time to Cardiff Met earlier in the year they were to face Gloucester in the delayed futsal final. After an end-to-end 3-3 draw in normal time, the team kept its cool to win the penalty shootout 3-2. Mass celebrations duly followed.

In cricket, the men scored 196 for 7 in their rain affected 24 overs following a superb 90 from Chris Jones in the first eleven overs of the game. However, an injury hit bowling attack made the going tough for Durham, and Loughborough scored the winning run off the penultimate ball of the match. The women did not face the same problem as they scored a solid 195 for 6 against Leeds Met with Caroline Jamieson scoring yet another fifty. Leeds Met completely lost their way in reply ending all out on 30.
