Crofton House School

At the beginning of a new academic year, we celebrate the tradition of academic excellence combined with citizenship, creativity and courage at Crofton House School. In this feature, Lisa Wolverton Class of 1985 credits Crofton House School for instilling confidence and courage in her as a young woman. We are also excited to celebrate the return of the Crofton House Winter Bazaar. A memorable community event where you can meet-up with old and new faces from the alumnae and CHS community.

Features

Breaking the Boundaries - Lisa Wolverton '85

Lisa Wolverton '85 has a passion for supporting vulnerable populations, particularly children, which has inspired her to follow an unusual and fulfilling career path. More recently, she has explored her other passion, promoting the vital role that women hold in the business world, and bringing men and women together to share the conversation. She credits her family for giving her a sense of adventure and Crofton House School for instilling in her the confidence to find and follow her sense of purpose.

The Crofton House Winter Bazaar is Back

After a five-year hiatus, the Crofton House Winter Bazaar is making its big return on November 21, 2015. The bazaar will be a community-wide collaboration, featuring fun family activities, an array of fashion and sporting goods, baby and toddler items, delicious teas, and more.

The original bazaar was started in 1944 with the intention of raising money for the Red Cross during the war. This re-imagined event will involve a return to its charitable roots, and all proceeds will be donated to local charity CLICK (Contributing to the Lives of Inner City Kids) to support food programs for Vancouver students in need.

In keeping with tradition, the alumnae will be hosting the Country Kitchen selling homemade alumnae preserves, chutneys and jams. Your helping hands will be greatly appreciated on November 18, to package the jam, and on November 21, the day of the event. If you are interested in volunteering and receiving free entrance to the bazaar, please contact alumnae@croftonhouse.ca.

Alumnae News

Alum Mum Breakfast

Twenty-five alumnae attended the Alum Mum breakfast event on September 15. This special breakfast is a time when alumnae can come together, regardless of graduating year, reconnect and share experiences both in and out of school.

There are currently 30 Alum Mums at CHS, the most to date and for the first time we have an alumna’s daughter in every grade, from JK to Grade 12.

"It's always fun to chat with old school mates -and now that we are all mums together at the school, it gives us a new bond!"; and "Being an Alum Mum takes away any difference in grad years - we are all here together but on a different journey - I love it!" were some of the few comments that our Alum Mums shared with us at breakfast.

Alumnae Achievement Award – call for nominations!

The Alumnae Achievement Award is presented each year at the Alumnae Association AGM held on the school’s birthday. This year the event will be on March 4, 2016.

We are now accepting nominations for the 2016 Alumnae Achievement Award. If you have an outstanding candidate in mind, please contact us at alumnae@croftonhouse.ca.

The 5th Annual Inspiring Women Event

The annual Inspiring Women Event presents a unique panel of speakers whose experiences exemplify the passion and diversity of the Crofton House alumnae community. The women who graduate from Crofton House School are inspiring. They choose paths that are distinctive and meaningful, and they pursue their dreams with unparalleled passion.

Past guests have included entrepreneurs, humanitarians, professionals, performing artists, athletes and philanthropists. At Crofton House School, we believe that every alumna has something extraordinary to share.

Do you know someone with an inspiring story to share? If so please contact alumnae@croftonhouse.ca.

Of Note

Crofton House School acknowledges the passing of Griselda (Gordon) Evan '44 on October 9, 2015. Griselda has a special place in the history of Crofton House as she was the last surviving niece of Jessie Gordon, our school’s founder. Griselda was born the sixth of seven Gordon sisters, in London, England. She came to Canada in 1940 as a war evacuee and quickly adapted to her new Canadian home attending her aunt’s school - Crofton House. She attended Crofton from 1940-1944 where she served as Head Prefect and was active on the badminton and basketball teams.
