TAKE A BREATH TO BE MORE MINDFUL

As we near the end of the semester and exam season, take a moment and breathe. Our breathing is controlled by our thoughts. Learning a few mindfulness techniques can help stabilize one's thoughts, which in turn will relieve stress and lower the heart rate. The benefits are endless. For students, this can help with exam stress, and for faculty and staff, these practices will help cope with life events.

Individuals can take a small amount of time for themselves and simply breathe in... slowly... gently... deeply... and breathe out. Learn how to be more mindful: http://www.gvsu.edu/healthwellness/mindfulness

LIFT: Course/Instructor Feedback

As we end this semester, the University is excited to administer a new and updated course and instructor feedback system called LIFT, or Laker Impressions of Faculty Teaching. The new format will provide student reflections on the course as well as their impressions on faculty teaching.  Please encourage your students to participate in the LIFT process and stress the importance of potential improvements or changes that faculty glean with their shared constructive criticism and suggestions based on the overall semester. I hope each of you look forward to these as much as I do each semester. I encourage you to read them and take action in your planning for next semester as one more opportunity to hear the feedback you may have known and also that which you didn’t.
