Teaching for the First Time

In this hands-on, interactive workshop designed for faculty and postdoctoral fellows who are new to teaching at Brown, participants will review strategies for the first day of class, discuss ways to refelect on one's teaching, and have the opportunity to ask questions about teaching for the first time

New TA Orientation to Teaching at Brown features a hands-on workshop to help prepare graduate TAs for the first days of class, provides the opportunity for interactive discussions of teaching roles and responsibilities with experienced TAs and faculty, and offers teaching resources.
Co-sponsored by the Graduate School and the Harriet W. Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning.

Leading a First Readings Discussion: A Workshop for Facilitators

This workshop, led by Sheridan Associate Director Jessica Metzler, will equip participants with tools and strategies to encourage thoughtful and productive discussion of My Beloved World, Brown University’s 2016 First Readings book. Participants will learn techniques for creating a seminar environment conducive to discussion and develop strategies for starting, sustaining, and concluding a discussion of the book. This workshop will be offered twice and is appropriate for faculty and staff who will be facilitating a First Readings seminar. Lunch will be served. Please register for the August 25th workshop
