Highlights from Connect with the Creek

We have a lot going on this winter! Check out some of these recent highlights from the Connect with the Creek blog.

  • Lake Ontario Evenings is a great free event coming up on February 2. Attend to learn about Lake Ontario and sustainable technologies from the Toronto & Region Remedial Action Plan.
  • The Friends of the North Scarborough Green Loop will be leading a winter walk through L'Amoreaux Forest on February 21. Register to join in.
  • Sign-up to receive updates from TRCA Stewardship. Join in for some snowshoeing or owl spotting this winter.
  • The Cultural Hotspot is moving out west this year, but will have ongoing legacy projects in south Scarborough.
  • Keep an eye on the blog as we feature a video series from Green Infrastructure Ontario Coalition.
  • Did you see this 104 year old postcard that made a roundtrip back to Highland Creek?

Connect with the Creek in 2015!

In early 2014, the Highland Creek Green Team and Toronto and Region Conservation launched the Connect with the Creek blog in an effort to share information about environmental initiatives in the Highland Creek watershed and Scarborough.

To accomplish this, we:

  • promote events, activities, and projects by sharing promotional posters and invitations,
  • list local events and activities on our event calendar, and
  • collect stories related to these initiatives and the Highland Creek through the Connect with the Creek Project.

By the end of 2014, the blog had almost 6000 page visits from nearly 2000 unique visitors. We’ve shared information about Green Team and TRCA initiatives as well as the great work of many local organizations. And, we’ve posted over forty Connect with the Creek Project stories written by nine different authors.

This year, we would like to continue building these connections throughout Scarborough and the Highland Creek watershed. If you, or your organization, would like to participate here are three ways you can connect:

1. Submit information about upcoming community events or activities related to the environment, nature, or getting outside. To do this, go to www.highlandcreekconnect.ca and click on Submit in the top right hand corner. Create your post and it will be approved by a member of the Connect with the Creek social media team. Events will also be added to our event calendar.

2. Follow along through our Highland Creek Green Community Facebook page and @HCGreenTeam on Twitter. Posts that appear on the blog will also be sent to our Facebook and Twitter pages.

3. Contribute a story to our Connect with the Creek Project. Detailed instructions can be found on the blog and stories can be sent in through the Submit page. Encourage other members of your organization to participate and help us tell the story of the Highland Creek watershed.

Thank you for all of the volunteer and work effort you dedicate to making the Highland Creek watershed a cleaner, greener, and healthier place to live, work, and play! I look forward to sharing, promoting, and celebrating this work throughout 2015.
