New Integrated Urgent Care ServiceThe Integrated Urgent Care Service that incorporates NHS 111 and the GP Out of Hours services for patients in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Oundle, Wansford and Royston launched in October. Wisbech patients are part of the Norfolk NHS 111 and Out of Hours service. To help simplify access for patients, the enhanced NHS 111 service provide patients with access to a wider range of services and specialist clinicians such as GPs, pharmacists and health advisers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The integrated service means better sharing of expertise between GPs, clinical advisers and health advisers to ensure an appropriately trained member of staff will be able to deal with individual patient’s needs. By having one single point of access – 111 – it also prevents patients having to contact multiple different services to receive the care they need. All calls from both mobiles and landlines to 111 are free. The 2016/17 Stay Well This Winter campaign aims to keep vulnerable people well through winter and reduce pressures on the NHS. Locally, a number of resources have been produced to help raise awareness. These include a Guide to Childhood Illness booklet for pre-schools and nurseries, a series of 'Stay Well' flyers and posters for primary schools, a new Student Health Guide, and targeted activity to raise awareness of self care and waste medicines. New mental health crisis service: 111, option 2People living in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough can now access a new mental health team when they dial 111. The extension of the 111 service means callers who are experiencing a mental health crisis will be able to dial NHS 111, and by choosing 'option 2', will be put through to a member of the new First Response Service. The new pilot scheme, which launched in September, is run by mental health and community care provider Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. New Sanctuary service in PeterboroughA second 'safe-haven' in Peterborough has launched for those experiencing a mental health crisis. This follows the successful launch of the first Sanctuary in Cambridge, in April this year. These projects are part of the Urgent and Emergency Care Vanguard programme in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Hospitals a step closer towards mergingThe Trusts running Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals are a step closer to merging following the formal ratification of an updated Full Business Case. The Full Business Case included the results of a six-week staff and public engagement programme, as well as the findings of the independent East of England Clinical Senate on the integration of clinical services. It also describes the plan for a single, merged organisation that would operate from the three hospitals. There are no plans to change the way services are provided from current arrangements, and the focus remains to jointly deliver care that’s better, safer and local. The merger will need the approval of the Secretary of State for Health before it can go ahead as planned on 1 April 2017. You can find out more about the merger on the Trusts' websites: Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust & Hinchingbrooke Healthcare NHS Trust
