How long does it take to become a Director of Corporate Communications or Agency CEO?

One of the topics that The Works Search Annual Salary Guide 2017/18 examined was how long it takes to climb the PR ladder and reach the prized role of Director of Communications or Agency CEO. We specifically looked at corporate communications and financial communications teams in-house, as well as London-based corporate and financial communications agencies. Our survey results reveal the average number of years’ experience PR and Communications professionals have under their belts at different stages of their career path.

Career-impatient millennials (and their desire for frequent pay rises, promotions, and accelerated career advancement expectations) now make up the largest share of the workforce; we were curious to see whether this would have any bearing on our survey results. Just how long can industry professionals expect it to take to make it to the heady heights of a top-tier role?
