News about your libraries

New Brighton Library will close for repairs from Monday 1 August. On Monday 15 August, a temporary library will open at 60 Brighton Mall. It will offer a small, popular collection and eight free internet computers. Opening hours will be the same, and preschool sessions will continue as normal. Find out more.

Work on the new Sumner library, community centre and museum will begin on Monday 25 July. Construction is expected to take approximately ten months. In the meantime, our mobile library will visit 57 Nayland Street by the Sumner Hub, and the returns bin will be located there.

Work on the new, purpose-built Bishopdale Library and Community Centre begins this month and it is expected to open mid-2017.

Groundworks on the new Central Library began in February, and construction of the facility will start later this year. The library is scheduled to open by mid-2018.

  • Heartland brought to life by the Court Jesters - Friday 19 August 7pm to 9pm

WORD Christchurch Writers and Readers Festival

WORD Christchurch Writers and Readers Festival is on 24 to 28 August 2016. This year's WORD Festival features 80 events and over 100 speakers from New Zealand and the world. The theme is ‘The Planet and its People’.

Writers at WORD include David Levithan, Caitlin Doughty, Ben Sanders, Selina Tusitala Marsh, and Steven Daisley.
