Welcome Starbucks and Chevron!

Engaging Stakeholders is a business network for companies who are dedicated to best practice stakeholder engagement and accountability in pursuit of sustainability. This month we're pleased to announce that two more big brands have become members: Starbucks and Chevron.

In the coming weeks, representatives from both companies will be joining their peers from across a wide range of industry sectors at our member-only workshops. This year we're meeting at the headquarters of two long-term members – Disney in the US, and Bayer in Germany – to learn about the latest accountability and engagement trends and to share experiences with domain experts and each other.

Members will explore topics as diverse as social impact measurement, managing ambitious accountability targets, next-generation engagement strategies, and best practice use of social media.

There's still time to get involved in this year's workshops, so why not join Engaging Stakeholders today?

Essential, Elusive Leadership

image

In recent weeks, SustainAbility has begun convening a series of conversations exploring the intersection and interdependence of leadership, trust and value.  With several key milestones pending in 2012 – Rio+20, the 25th Anniversary of the Brundtland Report and our own 25th Anniversary – we are moved to consider what progress has been achieved, and more importantly, what sort of leadership will be essential to move the sustainability agenda faster and farther ahead in the decades to come.

SustainAbility's Executive Director Mark Lee reports back on two of these conversations on our blog this month (here and here) and frames the challenge of finding leadership "possessing the vision and ability required to describe and demonstrate how moving boldly on sustainability will create rather than destroy value for individuals, organizations and society as a whole."

To learn more about our 2012 plans, our thinking on leadership, trust and value, and how you might become involved in or sponsor these activities, please contact us and/or add your own comments alongside the posts on our site.

On Our Radar

image

For two decades global companies have valued SustainAbility’s strength in acting as an early warning system, to interpret what is happening in the world today and how it may impact their business tomorrow. Over the last two months, we've posted a series of short blogs that give a glimpse of what's "on our Radar."  Recent highlights include:

  • Energy Efficiency Isn't Sexy...It's Revolutionary – Energy efficiency may lack a certain sex appeal, but Japan may have hit on the greatest (latent) motive of all: collective action. | Read more
  • Walmart and McDonald's Take Aim at Obesity – Ambitious new commitments by two key food retailers attempt to take the issues of access and obesity head on. | Read more
  • Rethinking a Drier Future – China is one of many countries facing the need for a paradigm shift in water management. | Read more

If your company could benefit from an early warning system to help identify key threats and opportunities while navigating the rapidly evolving sustainability landscape, please contact us.
