ATTENTION ALL FIREFIGHTERS: “Shake your Boot” at the 2015 Firefighters “Fill the Boot for Burns” Boot Drive!

It’s not too early to sign up to volunteer and "Shake your Boot" at the 2015 Firefighters “Fill the Boot for Burns” Boot Drive!

The Firefighters Burn Institute will hold its annual Boot Drive fundraiser on President’s Day Weekend, February 12th-15th, 2015 in conjunction with National Burn Awareness Week.

This annual fundraiser is the single most important source of donations for the Firefighters Burn Institute. Dozens of burn recovery, education, prevention, scholarship and burn care programs depend on the success of the annual “Fill the Boot for Burns” Boot Drive event. With your help, 2015 will be another incredible year for donations. Every hour of your volunteer time is appreciated!

Letter From The Director

Jim Doucette

For over twenty-years our Firefighters Kids Camp has been held in Lake Tahoe at Camp Concord. Our dedicated volunteers have made this camp what it is today and have done an outstanding job!  No one appreciates their hard work and dedication more so than the many young burn survivors who have come from near and far to this great camp! In September, I made a request to our Executive Board to allow us to move our Firefighters Kids Camp to Camp Arroyo in Livermore, CA.

The decision to move our camp was not an easy one to make, but it was a decision that I know will be in the best interest of not only our charity, but also in the best interest of our kids!  Camp Arroyo is run by The Taylor Family Foundation (TTFF).  TTFF sends over 3,000 children with many different medical and psychological needs to camp each year.  Camp Arroyo is also the setting for our Little Heroes Preschool Burn Camp.  Firefighters Kids Camp and Little Heroes Preschool Burn Camp will be the only camps at Camp Arroyo that serve burn injured children and their families.  The facilities at Camp Arroyo are second to none. The camp offers a multitude of activities for our campers to enjoy including; swimming at the pool or lake, rock wall, zip line, arts & crafts, sport court, challenge courses, archery, bocce ball and horseback riding just to name a few!

Another benefit of moving our camp is the opportunity it provides us to offer additional programs to young burn survivors.  The “Young Adult Summit” for burn survivors ages 18-25 years old, is our newest program in the works.  We have recognized there is a need to assist our campers beyond their camp years.  The “Young Adult Summit” will be a way to help our campers with their education, career, and social needs.  Our goal is to have this new program up and running by 2016 so please stay tuned!

Thank you again for your continued support of the Firefighters Burn Institute and the programs and services we provide to burn survivors.  Our future is bright and I am looking forward to our expanding partnership with the Taylor Family Foundation.  Although our camp location will change, the magic of Firefighters Kids Camp will remain for years to come!

Sincerely,

Jim Doucette
