COLUMIBIA AND SUWANNEE COUNTY COMMISSIONS MEET ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 3RD

Let's start this new year with a resolve to become more involved in our government at all levels!  We can make a difference if we let them know that we are watching them, and tell them what we expect them to do!

The Suwannee County Commission meets at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 218 Parshley St. SW in Live Oak.  Suwannee County is spending money right and left on "Project Christmas"; this is a Catalyst Site designed to bring industries to this area.  We were told that we had to hurry and approve everything that a particluar lumber company wanted in order for them to come and set up business in Suwannee County.  Even though it seems that the taxpayers are paying for all types of improvements to that area, Klausner Lumber still has  not given a definite answer about whether they are coming!  In the meantime, what has been "put on the back burner" in Suwannee County?  How many roads do we have that need attention?  How many of us pay our taxes year after year and expect our County Commission to look out for the needs (within their boundaries) of all county residents?  You can see the agenda for this meeting at:  http://www.suwclerk.org/agenda/agenda.html

The Columbia County Commission will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the School Board Administration Complex on U.S. 90.  You can find more information about this meeting at:  http://www.columbiacountyfla.com/MeetingDetails.asp?Id=2471

Columbia County has been discussing building a "convention center"; at the estimated cost of $28 million dollars.  They are also trying to decide the "rules"  for allowing citizens to speak at "their" meetings.  This is a body that definitely needs watching and input!

Please try to attend the meeting in your county and let our "public servants" know that we are watching them!!

"The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them."
Patrick Henry, American colonial revolutionary

"Now more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature.... If the next centennial does not find us a great nation ... it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces."
James Garfield, the twentieth president of the United States, 1877

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
Edmund Burke
Irish orator, philosopher, & politician (1729 - 1797)
