Click here September 2019 Impact Newsletter NYC Comptroller Stringer and NYS Senator Hoylman Host Child Care Roundtable with CPC ParentsOn September 23rd, 2019, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer and NYS Senator Brad Hoylman visited CPC Jacob Riis Early Childhood Center to meet with CPC staff, parents, and children. CPC had the opportunity to share our expertise and recommendations on how to strengthen early childhood education in New York City. During the roundtable, the Comptroller presented the "NYC Under 3" proposal that aims to make quality child care more affordable and accessible for NYC families with infant and toddlers. CPC Employment Services Hosts Open House for Census 2020 Jobs On Friday, September 20th, CPC Education and Career Services (ECS) partnered with representatives from the United States Census Bureau for a hiring event. Around 25 community members participated in the event. CPC Service Learning Program Spreads Joy and Squashes Hunger With the focus of the year on food waste and hunger in America, the youth of the Service Learning Program devoted their final project to paying it forward during a weekend in August. Not only did the young people want to serve homemade sandwiches, they sought to spread positivity by handwriting hundreds of notes. CPC Brooklyn Community Services Fall Naturalization Class Begins! CPC Brooklyn Community Services is happy to announce the start of our Fall Naturalization Class Cycle. This cycle began on Monday, September 9th and will be held every Monday and Wednesday for 11 weeks. We are very excited for this cycle of participants! NYC Streamlines Contracting Process for Health & Human Services CPC commends NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and his administration for the positive results of the Nonprofit Resiliency Committee. On August 16th, the Mayor's Office announced 90% of all fiscal year human service contracts submitted for registration across the City's health and human services sector were submitted to the Comptroller's Office on time thanks for the work of the Nonprofit Resiliency Committee. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong. CPC Queens School-Age Child Care Center Students Learn About Healthy Living with the Mets and Olympic BoxersThanks to ROC NATION, the students of CPC Queens School-Age Child Care Center (SACCC) at PS 20 were able to meet NY Mets players J.D. Davis and Dominic Smith, as well as Chinese Olympic boxers, Zhilei Zhang and Fanlong Meng before the last Mets game of the season on September 26th. CPC Training Teachers to Keep Families SafeStaff of CPC's early childhood center were recently featured in a Chalkbeat article published on September 11th. They described how they are sharing information and resources with immigrant families to dispel fear and how CPC will continue to uphold its values as a safe and trusted resource for all community members. CPC Beacon Community Center Wraps Up Another Successful Summer ProgramCPC's Beacon Community Center wrapped up another successful Summer Program. Our theme this summer was Creative Arts and each class worked on their own unique projects. We had projects involving fashion, urban planning, wood, landscape, architecture, and much more. Families of CPC Chung Pak Early Childhood Center Pick Apples & Their Library CardsFamilies and their preschool-aged children enjoyed the start of fall with a trip to an apple orchard on September 22nd. As the weather gets cooler, they'll also be ready to cuddle up with a good book from the library thanks to help of our local librarian. Summer Fun at PS 130 CPC Baxter Street School-Age ProgramThe students at CPC's afterschool program at PS 130 have wrapped up seven weeks of full-time summer programming and are now facing the start of another school year. CPC Brooklyn Community Services Hosts Educational Traumatic Brain Injury WorkshopBrooklyn Community Services partnered with NYU Langone on August 29th to bring community members a valuable workshop topic: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age. CPC Queens Seniors Fulfill Dreams of Becoming ArtistsOn September 20th and 21st, CPC Nan Shan Senior Center seniors, in partnership with Maw Shyuan Wang and Ameriasia Bank, hosted the 26th Annual Nan Shan Senior Center art exhibition. CPC Brooklyn Senior Services Celebrates the Mid-Autumn FestivalOn Friday, September 13th, CPC's Brooklyn Senior Services held a Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration at Park Asia Restaurant.
