The research was led by Oriel FeldmanHall, assistant professor of cognitive, linguistic and psychological sciences, and Jeroen van Baar, a former post-doctoral researcher at Brown. Read more.

 
 

Resuming Research Update

Effective June 11, the Research Continuity Committee is no longer reviewing Return to Campus Plans. Individual departments and labs are responsible for reviewing, approving, and maintaining on-site staffing, and submitting all changes directly to University Human Resources. On-site work by essential research visitors and field research by Brown employees and students still require review. Read more.

Flexibilities for Prospective Experimental Studies with Human Participants

Did you know that compensation for participation in a research study is considered income by the IRS? But reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses, like travel, is not. See the HRPP's Compensation guidance for more information.

International Travel: Important Reminders
As the University eases travel restrictions, please be reminded that, in addition to following Brown’s policies for University-sponsored travel, all personnel must comply with export/sanctions regulations when traveling internationally.

IACUC Semiannual Inspections Starting July
The IACUC will be conducting semiannual inspections starting the beginning of July and concluding at the end of August. As early preparation, please review the IACUC’s SOP on Semiannual Inspections.

New 3 Day Review Period for Just In Time (JIT)
Please see the OSP Announcements page for an important notice regarding the routing of JIT documents.  JIT routed after 7/1/21 should allow for 3 full days of OSP review, when possible.

Update: Policies for University-Sponsored Travel
The University has lifted its previous “essential travel only” mandate and also is in the process of gradually easing restrictions on domestic University sponsored travel.

Fiscal Year End Closing Schedule
The Year End Schedule has been posted to the Controller’s Website. OSP requires a lead time of 3-5 business days prior to Year End Deadlines to guarantee posting in FY21.

Year End Sponsored Projects Account Clean-Up
Departments must remove costs if posted to accounts after award performance period and not approved in the financial report. If not removed, OSP will remove costs on your behalf. Please continue to review the Post Award Expired Awards Status Report distributed to departments.

Faculty Summer Salary Costing Allocations
When completing faculty summer salary costing allocations in Workday, please complete and attach the Summer Salary Costing Allocation Template to the costing allocation in Workday.

Reminder: Return Award Financial Closeout Reports by OSP Internal Deadline
Return Financial Reports to OSP by internal deadline. If not timely, OSP will submit per the Sponsored Budget to Actuals Report, disallowing any adjustments after the performance period end date. Refer here for guidance.

Brown Joins Program for Streamlined Technology Licensing
Brown is one of 15 leading universities who will aggregate engineering and physical science patents into broad bundles of technologies for commercialization as part of the University Technology Licensing Program (UTLP). This strategy streamlines the process for licensing technologies to companies and investors.

Developments in Clean Energy
Nitin Padture’s research team developed a molecular glue increasing the efficiency of perovskite solar cells converting sunlight into electricity. This work, published in Science, was included in a patent application guided by Brown Technology Innovations.

Oxford Nanopore Raises $217M
Oxford Nanopore raised $217M in a funding round to further develop its genetic sequencing technology. Derek Stein (Physics) has a long standing relationship with Oxford leading to sponsored work in product development.  Story here.
