Online Chat with an Advisor Launched

let's chat

In September, the CCPS-UAC had a "soft launch" of a new method for connecting with students and providing additional access to advisors. During the fall semester, the online chat function will be available 3 days a week during peak, mid-day periods. The chat is designed to offset some of the phone and email traffic we receive from students who have "quick questions" that can be answered without a significant review of the student's record. The chat function does not replace regular advising/planning meetings with students. After this semester, we will review student feedback, conversation content and chat timing to determine if it has improved access to advising services and where we take it for the next semester. Want to send a message to your assigned advisees?

email envelope

Did you know that the "advisee listing" in myBanner is the list of ALL of the students assigned to you. This could include students who are not enrolled this semester, have graduated, or have been academically dismissed. A better method to reach out to your advisees who are enrolled this semester can be found in the "Additional Student Information" page. The CCPS Undergraduate Advising Center has created an easy to follow tool for you to use to connect with your advisees. We recommend you connect with your students each semester to let them know when you have office hours or how best to reach you. If you have any questions please contact us. MORE INFORMATION

The new Student Success Collaborative tool is an even easier way to connect with your advisees! More information will be coming this semester as we roll out the tool in CCPS.

Theresa Lyon Awarded NACADA Scholarship

Theresa Lyon

Theresa Lyon, a graduate assistant with the CCPS-UAC, was selected to receive a NACADA Graduate Student Annual Conference Scholarship from the National Academic Advising Association as part of the 2014 Annual Awards Program for Academic Advising.

This scholarship is presented to selected NACADA student members who are pursuing graduate education at either the Master's, Ph.D. or Ed.D. level. This program gives individuals studying in the academic advising field or those with an interest in pursuing a career in academic advising an opportunity to attend the NACADA Annual Conference held last week in Minneapolis, MN.

Since 1983, NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. The goal of NACADA is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students.

NACADA’s membership consists of over 10,000 faculty, professional advisors, administrators, counselors, and others in academic and student affairs concerned with the intellectual, personal, and vocational needs of students. In addition, NACADA is the representative and advocate of academic advising and those providing that service to higher education.

Congratulations to Theresa for being a fantastic representative for CCPS and GVSU at the NACADA Annual Conference!
