Heartbeat Conference ...Just back from Dallas, I want to thank you for your thoughts, prayers and best wishes! I teamed up with my friends at Lifetime Adoptions to present at the Heartbeat Conference in Dallas. Our topic for this workshop was post-placement support for birthparents.

We at Unplanned Good were honored once again to support BirthMom Buds' annual retreat. Last weekend, 30 birthmoms gathered in South Carolina to support and enjoy each other. They laughed and cried together, shared their stories and talked. They forged new bonds and renewed old ones. Our survey of 107 birthmoms last month showed that THE most effective form of post-placement support is connection with other birthmoms. That unique communication makes them feel heard and understood, unlike any other kind of support that could be offered.
We were proud once again to support the annual birthmother retreat hosted by Birth Mom Buds May 3-5.
CAFO Conference is just around the Corner
In May, I'm teaming up with Obria/Real Options to present a workshop on talking adoption in pregnancy clinics. This is a new topic for us.
Actually this presentation is today - May 10! - as you get this newsletter (thanks to auto-send). I'll have to write about it next month. We hope that society will start to do a better job -- and do more -- to spread the word about adoption as an option for women facing unplanned pregnancy, and then to support them better after they choose adoption.

Adoption Story from Birthmom DominiqueI met Dominique at CAFO in Dallas last year when she served on our birthmom panel. This year she'll be at CAFO on the main stage! Read her story on our site.
The one thread that runs through every birthparent story I've ever read is that it was the most difficult decision ever, but made from the most profound love.
Please, be ready to advocate for adoption 24/7, any time the opportunity presents itself!
With two workshops we're presenting this Spring (above), we'd love some help funding those two trips across the country. Thank you so much for helping us spread the word about adoption as an option.
Phrase of the Day: Open Adoption
Open adoption is a form of adoption in which the biological and adoptive families have each other's contact information and varying degrees of contact with each other, by phone, in person and/or through social media.
A Reference Guide for Families Here’s a guide to open adoption and how to make it work, from the match period through common post-adoption bumps. It includes tips on how to keep the
focus on the child’s best interests.
DID YOU KNOW? - Fewer than 0.5% of women facing unplanned pregnancy make an adoption plan?
- When they do, it's because an adult in their life encouraged them to consider adoption?
- There are over one million U.S. couples waiting now to adopt?

Why are we doing this?
Young women are 50% more likely to make an adoption plan when the trusted adult in their life suggests it to them. Otherwise, most girls don't give it a minute's thought, and choose between abortion or single parenting. That's why we need to get this on the radar of more people.

About Unplanned GoodWe promote adoption as a positive option for those facing unplanned pregnancies. It can be so very good (and beautiful!) for all involved. Unplanned Good is reaching out to both teens and their parents, to let them know that adoption is an option. Studies have shown that girls are 50% more likely to see their pregnancy through and make an adoption plan when an adult suggests this path. Please visit our site, and encourage others to see it. Read the encouraging, heartfelt stories there. Send in your own story, and ask a friend to do the same.
