Hi There!

Tonight we kick off the first event in our very special four-day summer residency with Chris Corsano. Taking in one-off live collaborations with the likes of Evan Parker, Vibracathedral Orchestra, Okkyung Lee, Summer Strings and much, much more, this promises to be an extraordinary few days!

For the first time, we're launching a new ticket model whereby tickets will be available in special bundles with an A2 silkscreen poster by the great Dennis Tyfus, as well as a special 'supporter' edition of a new LP made from recordings of the residency.

On Sunday we have a great line-up of genre-defying modular constructions and enveloping sonic scree, with US experimental/noise musician Robert Turman, London-based guitar/electronics musician Cam Deas, and double drum and synth modulator duo To/To.

Hope to see you here.

TONIGHT & THURSDAY & FRIDAY & SATURDAY

CHRIS CORSANO -
SUMMER RESIDENCY

Chris Corsano has developed a percussive language of extraordinary amplitude and infinite resources. His collaborations stretch from free jazz greats (Joe McPhee, Paul Flaherty & more) to noise mavens (Bill Nace, C Spencer Yeh etc) and pop superstars (Björk). Capable of generating narrative out of permanent ecstasy, Corsano never ceases to be profoundly affirmative and imposing of his language, and being an absolute and charismatic virtuoso, he simultaneously is one of the most noble and generous improvisers of the few last decades.

For these events we will be selling special tickets in bundles with an A2 silkscreen poster by Dennis Tyfus, as well as an LP made from recordings of the residency. The exact contents of this LP will be determined after the residency takes place - but this is a unique opportunity to go above and beyond in your support for the concerts. Proceeds from the bundled ticket/poster/LP deals go to supporting musician's fees and the costs of hosting the residency.

WEDNESDAY
- Chris Corsano Solo
- Summer Strings
- Lovers Ritual with Chris Corsano

The first day of Chris Corsano's four day summer residency includes a solo performance and intersection with renegade conductor/performer Ilan Volkov who gathers together his now annual expanded string ensemble and collaborates with Corsano as part of his duo Lovers Ritual (with Maya Dunietz).

THURSDAY
- Okkyung Lee / John Butcher / Chris Corsano
- Mette Rasmussen / Alan Wilkinson / Pat Thomas / Chris Corsano

The second day of Chris Corsano's four day summer residency features a trio with cellist Okkyung Lee and saxophonist John Butcher, followed by a quartet with pianist Pat Thomas and Mette Rasmussen and Alan Wilkinson on saxophones.

FRIDAY
- Evan Parker / John Edwards / Chris Corsano
- Massimo Pupillo and Chris Corsano

Day number three of Chris Corsano's four day summer residency sees the return of the Parker/Edwards/Corsano trio first captured on the CleanFeed CD 'A Glancing Blow' - to be followed by a duo with the great electric bassist Massimo Pupillo (ZU, The Original Silence, Hairy Bones etc etc).

SATURDAY
- Vibracathedral Orchestra with Chris Corsano

The fourth and final day of Chris Corsano's residency sees him back in the folds of a recently revived Vibracathedral Orchestra. Vibracathedral Orchestra are the totemic ensemble of contemporary British outsider music. Their chimerical DNA spans from beatific Labour-club raga to full-on face-flaying West Riding Kraut-out, whilst the core membership and elastic supporting cast that has realised this wayward vision is an unrivalled who’s who of the UK audio underground. Having blown the roof off on their OTO debut earlier this year (their first London show since 2007), a chance to see them join forces with Corsano's mercurial drumming should not be passed up.

SATURDAY IN THE PROJECT SPACE

THE BARCELONA CONNECTION

6PM • £6 on the door only

This evening brings together five musicians who have crossed paths and established connections in various degrees for the last ten years across Europe, with a long layover under the Barcelona sun. On a rare visit to London, Ferran Fages will present an extended version of the duo ap'strophe with Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga, inviting Eddie Prévost to play with them. A quintet will bring Lali Barrière and Kostis Kilymis joining in, creating a unique situation for all five musicians.

SUNDAY

ROBERT TURMAN + CAM DEAS + TO/TO + CEJERO DJS

£8 adv / £10 on the door

A great line-up of genre-defying modular constructions and enveloping sonic scree. US experimental/noise musician Robert Turman brings a disorientating morass of electronic textures that deftly weave between ambience and abstraction whilst losing none of the bite and menace that has seen him collaborate with the likes of Aaron Dilloway. Cam Deas returns to OTO with new LP, String Studies, that focuses on turning the 12 string acoustic guitar on its head by using it as the sole sound source for a densely constructed kind of real-time musique concrete. Also on the bill are double drum and synth modulator duo To/To (aka Tobias Kirstein and Toke Tietze) who go for the jugular with a constantly mutating rhythmic burst of bludgeoning energy. Plus DJ sets from Cejero records, who recently put out LPs from both Turman and To/To.

MENTAL SHAKE

"some of the most beautiful moments I have ever heard of a Brötzmann band... Brötzmann, the old snake charmer on acid, sometimes sounds as if he was 30 again." - Free Jazz Blog

For all the usual rhetoric of Free Jazz bluster and machismo, this is a meeting characterised by the joy of communal creation that makes you want to dance - even if only in your head.

OTO RECOMMENDS:

OREN AMBARCHI & ELI KESZLER - ALPS (Dancing Wayang)

ALPS by Oren Ambarchi & Eli Keszler is a seemingly inevitable collaboration of two musicians kicking against limits and genre definitions, recorded and presented with a similar disregard for anything but quality.

Two vinyl-side-long pieces that mix improv, noise, rock, and drone, this is never an easy listen but always a compelling one. Both musicians are compulsive collaborators, with individual oeuvres that span all those genres and others yet to be labelled, and this album reflects and distills their hard-working heritage.

Vinyl Album - edition of 500
