Tix to Folk Yeah at the Bakery this Friday up for grabs here!

Jesse Boykins lll is massively blowing our minds - definitely check this tune Change of Heart

Lyndon Blue reviews Joe McKee's last WA show before he heads back to London. Rachel Dease gets a glowing review also.

Christopher Isaacs, our theatre critic & dare we say intellectual, is getting well post modern. This week his focus is on the behaviour of the theatre viewer.

Amber Fresh gets close to Peter Bibby in an extended interview. The guy plays with many bands & is a busy dude helping the Perth scene.

Folk Yeah happens this Friday, September 14 at The Bakery. The show sees the cream of Perth's folk pop artists James Teague, The Big Old Bears, The Seals & The Flower Drums. First in here gets a double pass

Those who miss out can get tix here.

lyndon blue: live reviews

JOE McKEE FAREWELL TO PERTH SHOW @ ELLINGTON JAZZ CLUB, MONDAY SEPTEMBER 10

Through night buses, liquor stores and veggie patches, I snake towards the jazz club, the dark crisp edifice hemmed in by leaves and golden arches. The front door guides me into an unlit recess, black but for a square aperture to my right with a woman’s face in it. She looks up from her books and admits through the next door, where wooden tables loiter, little fire-tongues tasting the saxophone-laden air. The man in the waistcoat pours me a pint that seems bigger than a pint, and another man in another waistcoat proffers a plate of warm bread, gently steaming and edged with trimmings. Duke Ellington winks down at me from the adjacent wall.

Amber Fresh: Interviews

Up Close and Perthonal with Peter Bibby

If you haven’t heard of Peter Bibby, or his bands Frozen Ocean or F…ing Teeth, then you probably haven’t been at any local shows in the last twelve months, or have a more swiss cheese memory than even my own. With undeniably and intensely emotional, intelligent and (ew, don’t like this word, but) poignant songs, the ability to make audiences laugh, cry and hurl cordial, the special wild and telepathic bond between himself and best friend and Frozo drummer Macca, and all the other great things that make everyone shut up and take notice when he plays, Bibby is one of the best things in Perth music, and anyone I’ve ever talked to knows it. He’s also the powerhouse behind The Good Buddies...

A View on the Viewing

Currently I’ve been touring a show around parts of the world. One the most fascinating things which I come by are the way an audience responds to a show. I watch people of Japan polite clap at moments when other people cheer. I watch the muffled English laughter of Oxford intellectuals rumble through a small theatre. And in Denmark I wonder if it’s an insult when the entire audience begins to clap in unison at the end of the show, as though they are setting the beat to a marching band (It’s not an insult, apparently). The nature of how people receive shows and how...

A dance night based on abandoning self-consciousness and professionalism through no lights and no talking as you bust a move, NLNL has finally hit Perth after incarnations across the Eastern States.

Whilst flirting and showing off are moves that are sacrificed, what emerges is self-confidence invested within the purity of dancing as well as a killer work-out to boot. Not to mention the uplifting sight of a town hall filled with shadowy apparitions shifting shapes to Getting Jiggy with it.

FRIDAY september 14

Hussle Hussle

At Mojos Bar, Fremantle

Hussle Hussle presents SEASTA CHANI a lady who doesn't mince her words. With her seductive vocal talents, this artist sings of love & temptation and raps about life in a desert state. with the backup of her feline cohort, Mama Tiger on decks and Cat on harmonies, Seasta Chani's prowess as a performer and lyricist shine; An enigmatic entertainer to behold.

THE BLACK PENNY PROJECT is a smooth neo roots act that fuses elements of reggae and bossa into an original, soulful sound. Fronted by Ken Craigie on lead vox/acoustic guitar, with Wazza on electric bass, Dean on drums/backing vox and Dave Smith on tenor sax, this vibing four piece will be joined onstage by special guest, AMC, an mc with mad vocab! This collaboration is set to sizzle.

Coming through ! WISDOM 2TH is a man of many talents. Armed with just his laptop and his wild imagination, this young buck pulls out all stops when putting on his enthralling one man show. A producer, a rapper and a dancer, the Wisdom 2th show has something for everybody.

Hilariously entertaining. Originally formed in 1996, THE FREAKZ OF THE NATURE, after an extended hiatus, have reformed and are taking the local scene by storm... Comprised of Krazie Kraze, Optimystic and Illuminosity, this energetic group fuse electro/dance/rave beats with conscious lyrics to create an electrifying & fun live show .. These guys and girl are dynamite.

And last but not least is DT... Originally hailing from Seattle, this young MC has been creating quite a buzz on the local scene .. Raw, intelligent and charismatic, DT captivates his audience with his solid stage presence and extensive rap skills. According to Big Krizz Kaliko, "This kid ain't no joke", Flava and then some.

(EVE) THE EXPLODERS play Mojos for the first time in years! The Exploders have returned for the release of their latest LP Orche.Stratos.Pheric, out now through Rubber Records. This album is described as being a bizarre mash of myth, modern life, wives tale, proverb and perversion with Electric Country and Psychephallic Rock or Roll music as glue.

As Melbourne's Beat magazine recently proclaimed, The Exploders are "back to their top form with this new release. Pheric is a calculated strategic move that works a charm….The Exploders hijack honky-tonk rhythm ‘n’ blues and work in some rock ’n’ roll into its soul." The Exploders will offer their usual honest and aggressive live show for any and all to behold.

Supporting on the night will be THE NOVOCAINES, THE LOVE JUNKIES, SUGARPUSS & MAN THE CLOUDS (Tayo from The Weapon Is Sound).

"They think nothing will happen because they have shut the door..."

How do we find refuge when home is lost? Three young people come together to face an unexpected event and all its repercussions.

The Broken Image Ensemble is a group of committed young emerging writer/performers who draw on eclectic influences and work with forward-thinking artists. They create theatre that embodies youthful spirit and bravery.

Performed & devised by Holly Garvey, Caris Eves & Josh Magee
Directed by Sarah McKellar
Written by Michael Collins
Sound design by Will Slade
Lighting design by Chris Donnelly

kevin robertson - new exhibition

at galerie dusseldorf, mosman park

26 AUGUST - 23 SEPTEMBER

This new small exhibition of paintings is based on direct observations of things – choices triggered sometimes by chance combinations, others use colour and light as the starting point. Through unusual pairings of objects, these paintings explore light in all its transient, playful and lyrical states.
