Does Obama’s campaign mirror Truman’s?
Some pundits watching the 2012 U.S. presidential race say Obama’s campaign has a lot in common with Harry Truman’s 1948 campaign. But while Obama and Truman have both complained of a “do nothing” Congress, the economic, foreign affairs and social issues of today vastly differ from those in Truman’s time. So says
David Pietrusza, a presidential historian and author who will speak on “Rethinking the 2012 Election: Is Obama Following the Harry Truman Model?” Oct. 1 from 6-7 p.m. in Ekstrom Library’s Chao Auditorium.
Teachers interested in the McConnell Center's yearlong Teacher Scholar Program will be invited to an extended Q&A session with the author and past TSP participants from 7-8 p.m.
