Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the May 2018 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate.

Below find a few key points provided by our Chief Economist, Michael Uhrich:

  • U.S. domestic beer shipment volume decreased by 6.2% during May 2018 on the same number of selling days compared to May 2017.
  • Very cold weather conditions in April resulted in above average distributor inventory levels at the end of that month, thereby reducing orders for delivery in May.
  • Subsequently, very favorable weather conditions in May led to distributor inventory reduction during the month.
  • Some beer suppliers reported trucking supply tightness as having been among the factors affecting their ability to respond to unexpectedly high demand in May.  Trucking supply tightness has been a growing concern for many industries recently, as qualified commercial drivers have been in short supply.

If you have any questions, please contact Michael at either 202-737-2337 or muhrich@beerinstitute.org.
