Meet with us.

September 2012

Navigating the confusing world of SEO.

If you are like most business owners or managers, you don't have time to learn how to do SEO yourself, but you do want to know what SEO is, and why it's good for your business.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Basically, SEO is the practice of using certain keywords, research and programming to increase your odds of being found naturally, or "organically" when someone does a search. And, because Google is the primary search engine used by 60-80% of Canadians, it's the big one you want to impress.

To get Google to list your company you have two options, one, pay for ads (which are the listings you see typically down the right side of your browser), or, use the tools Google has available to research, implement and monitor the performance of your site.

So, what is the reason for all this SEO hype? Well, look at it this way, you have paid to have a beautiful new website to showcase your business (you have, right?), but how are people going to find your site? Yes, they are going to type something in Google (like "logo design vancouver" in our case), and see what pops up.

If your name doesn't appear, they will click on the company who does come up, and if it's not you, well, the other guy may have just got a new client that could have been yours!

The fun thing about SEO is that it is an even playing field, so no matter how large, or how small you are, you have the ability, with the right kind of research and implementation, to be placed in search results, and can even target niche markets for new products and services.

The web is ever changing and expanding, and is one of the most important marketing tools you need. SEO is just one more way to get your company out there where everyone can find you, because the saying 'it's all about location', is still very much applicable, but today that means online.
