University of Lethbridge maintains top-three finish in Research Infosource rankings
The University of Lethbridge has maintained a top-three ranking among Canadian undergraduate universities in the annual Research Infosource’s Top 50 Research Universities list, released Thursday, Oct. 17.
The U of L was ranked first in terms of total number of publications and third in publication intensity.
Last year, the U of L was named Research University of the Year (Undergraduate Category).
Research Infosource indicated that a decline in provincial research funding, as well as reined-in corporate funding, contributed to lower scores for all Alberta universities. Learn more here.

Anil Pereira introduced as Management's first Executive in Residence
The University of Lethbridge Faculty of Management is launching its Executive in Residence program by appointing international technology marketing expert Anil Pereira as its first on-site executive.
Pereira (BMgt ’87) is a well-known Silicon Valley entrepreneur and marketing executive with more than 20 years of hands-on experience at both start-up companies and global corporations. He is currently the founder and Executive Chairman of Verious, the world’s first code recommendation engine for software developers.
The company serves a booming market that industry analysts predict will be valued at more than $100 billion by 2015.
Initially, Pereira will be on campus for a week beginning November 4 to engage students through a series of guest lectures and mentoring sessions.
This will set the stage for a return visit in the spring that will feature similar activities as well as public presentations in Lethbridge, Calgary and Edmonton.

Ste. Marie gives to students in multiple ways
It was a typical morning on campus for Gerry Ste. Marie – a day much like many others when he’d stood in line at the cafeteria, pulled out his wallet and said to the cashier, “I’ll pay for hers too.”
The “she” in the story, standing in line behind Ste. Marie, is someone that he didn’t know. He’d actually never seen the young woman before and likely never would again.
That didn’t matter to Ste. Marie, though – in fact, not knowing her was the whole point. Ste. Marie makes a fairly routine habit of treating strangers to breakfast or lunch – something he likes to do not for glory, but for the pure joy of giving.
Ste. Marie’s generosity doesn’t stop at the end of the cafeteria line. He’s been a contributor to the Supporting Our Students (SOS) fund for five years and sees his donations as an extension of his duties as a U of L employee. Learn more here.
The SOS team will be unveiling a large banner in the Park Way building this coming Thursday morning beginning at 10 a.m. to acknowledge Gerry's participation in the SOS progam.

Management students pay it forward with Kazakoff Scholarship
The University of Lethbridge community has a proud tradition of providing financial support for students in the pursuit of their educational goals. And, once in a while, these students take an opportunity to pay it forward to others who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence.
One such opportunity was taken by Faculty of Management alumni Kelly Kennedy (BMgt '08), Lee Spracklin (BMgt '08) and Christine Odney (BMgt '08).
The three former members of the JDC West business competition team were looking for a way to make use of surplus team funds and came up with the idea to support current students, all the while honouring the contribution of an outstanding professor.
The Dan Kazakoff Award in Student Leadership was established shortly thereafter to recognize exceptional leadership as demonstrated through community and campus involvement.
Kazakoff, pictured above left, is the director of Theory Into Practice Programs in the Faculty of Management. He is also known for his involvement with the Small Business Institute and, most notably, his work with students in the Integrated Management Experience class. Learn more here
