GREAT BROWS DO NOT HAPPEN BY CHANCE...THEY HAPPEN BY APPOINTMENT!

By: Susie Reed, RN

It is well known in our office that I am not allowed to own tweezers, because sadly, I have a tendency to remove more hair on my brows than I need to.  As I have gotten older, they just do not grow back like they used to. I'm sure many of you have had similar situations...over waxed, over tweezed, or they have simply gotten thinner with age.   While any of us can fill in our brows every morning with our normal makeup routine, it became a tedious task that I did not want to do anymore.

Thank goodness we have our very own "Brow Queen", Randi Saunders, right under our roof here at Hull Aesthetics.  She offers one of the latest procedure to brows to make them appear fuller and natural through microblading. The process was pretty simple.  I had a numbing cream on for about twenty minutes before the treatment and Randi would continue to apply more numbing throughout the procedure for my comfort.  The treatment took a little over an hour as she used the microblading pen to draw small, hair-like strokes of pigment in the eyebrow. Now I will warn you, immediately after the treatment I felt like Groucho Marx.  After any permanent makeup procedure, the treated area, in my case the brow, will appear larger and darker than how they will end up when the process is healed.  But don't worry, it will be very natural looking when it is all said and done.  Trust me and anyone who has had permanent makeup, if you feel like they are "too much" immediately after your treatment, you are going to LOVE them when they are healed.  I'm enjoying the extra time I do not have to "pencil in" my brows every morning and you can too.  Schedule your complimentary consultation with Randi today!

NOTICING SOME NEW FACES?

We are growing here at Hull Aesthetics and if you have been in lately, you have likely seen some new faces! In order to answer the growing demand for product advice, we have recently hired Audrey Glidewell who will serve as our Product Specialist. In addition, an increase in patient interest in our procedures led us to hire Gail Young, a Licensed Massage Therapist, and Kelley Rosen, a Board Certified Aesthetician.

Since the beginning of 2016, we have adopted the mantra of “70|30” here at Hull Aesthetics. While we believe treatments can give you 70% results, it’s the products that you use afterward that give you the other 30%. It takes the combination of treatments and products working together for you to maximize the benefits of your procedure and get your full 100% results.

In order for us to ensure that our patients have the most information to make the smartest skincare choice, we recently added a product specialist to our staff. Audrey comes to us with over 10 years of experience in cosmetics and skincare. Of those 10 years, about seven were spent traveling from state to state to offer in-depth training about product efficacy and product.  She has worked extensively with cosmetic and skincare brand creators within large retailers to train fellow peers and clients on the brand history and production.

Skincare has proven to be a suitable career path for Audrey as she is very passionate about skin health. Skincare is the most important thing in maintaining healthy skin, outside of diet.  As Audrey likes to remind us, the skin is the largest living organ we have and its function is to protect us and be the "top coats" of our bodies. Because of that, it deserves to be kept as healthy and vital as possible.

If you have any questions about our products and what you can use to maximize your treatment results, just ask Audrey!

Gail has been a practicing Massage Therapist since 2003 after she completed her training at Louisville School of Massage in Kentucky. Her specialties include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Relaxation, Hot Stone and Prenatal massage. She is committed to ensuring her clients receive a professional, therapeutic experience which exceeds their expectations.

Gail believes in the mind-body connection and has seen first-hand how massage can transform a tired, achy, and stressed-out person into a relaxed, calm person with decreased pain and discomfort. She loves to be part of, and witness, that transformation. For Gail, massage therapy isn’t a luxury but rather a service that contributes to a person’s wellness and improves the quality of life. Massage is most beneficial when it is used in combination with other practices like stretching or medication. Drinking water can also stretch the benefits of massage on the body.

When not working, Gail enjoys spending time outdoors cycling and hiking and also loves to practice yoga. One of her favorite things to do is spoil her dog Fergus – a black shih tzu that loves to play!

As a resident of Northwest Arkansas since 2004, Gail happily calls this area home. Even though she loves our state, she is, and will always be, an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers!

Kelley has been a Board Certified Aesthetician since 2014. She credits her mother as the source of her life-long interest in the beauty industry, adding that her mother taught her how and why to take care of her skin from a very early age. Her mother’s inspirational advice developed into a passion that was enforced by her love of helping people. Combining her two interests led her to the field of Aesthetics and she feels very blessed to be able to help people with their skin needs.

A resident of Northwest Arkansas since 2005, Kelley has a diverse and loving blended family. They all share a passion for dogs and Kelley enjoys raising Labradoodles and Goldendoodles. She describes her dogs Charlie and Lexie as very spoiled but having great personalities! She loves seeing new forever families excited about the addition of “Doods” to their homes. She also enjoys keeping up with them and the puppies as they become part of her extended Doodle family.

Kelley loves to travel and she finds visiting new places and meeting new people very exciting. Some of her favorite trips are road trips, even if they are only short ones! Her favorite place to visit is the beach but she also loves to visit Colorado and the mountains.

As an eleven-year resident of Northwest Arkansas, Kelley believes she lives in the most beautiful part of our state. Plus, she loves being right in the heart of Razorback country. Go Hogs!

A LOOK AT SCLEROTHERAPY: IT MIGHT BE CLOSE TO HALLOWEEN, BUT I DON'T WANT SPIDER VEINS!

By: Tammy Casteel, LPN

Fall is here and this is the perfect time to start working on those spider veins to get your legs ready for summer. Enjoy the freedom to show off your legs.

What is Sclerotherapy? This is a treatment for spider veins. Spider veins are dilated capillaries on the skin, resembling spider legs. They are milder than varicose veins, which are the enlarged veins that are visible through skin and may appear as blue or purple twisted knot-like cords. The causes of spider veins may vary with each person but can be due to increased age, family history, pregnancy, periods of long standing, tight fitting clothing, and obesity, just to name a few.

How do we treat these unsightly veins? Asclera is a sclerosing agent injected into the vein. Asclera works by damaging the cells lining the inside of the blood vessels and causing them to collapse and then your body will absorb the tissue. On average, you will need 2-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart to achieve your desired results.

What to expect on day of treatment? Asclera treatment session can last from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the number of spider veins a person has. Local itching at sites where sclerotherapy was performed can be common after the procedure. As the point of the procedure is to induce a local inflammatory reaction in the vessel, that can result in histamine release, which causes us to itch. The itching can last for a few days but a topical hydrocortisone ointment will help. Following treatment, compression stockings or support hose should be worn continuously for 2-3 days and then for two weeks during the day only. We encourage walking 15-20 minutes immediately after treatment and daily for the next 3-5 days.

What to avoid after treatment to achieve best results: NO heavy exercise, NO sun bathing, NO long flights and NO HOT baths or sauna.

What measures can you take to lessen the chance of spider veins coming back in the lower body? Regular exercise to improve leg strength, elevating the legs when resting, not sitting for long periods of time without getting up and moving around. Avoid wearing tight clothing that constricts the legs, groin, waist as well as wearing low-heeled shoes as much as possible.

Here at Hull Dermatology we offer free consultations with our expert nursing staff to evaluate and customize what treatment plan is best for you. Call today to schedule your consultation.

KENDALL HAS A HULL LOTTA LOVE FOR CHEMICAL PEELS!

If you have ever met with me, you know that I LOVE chemical peels! I feel that it is a great way to get results quickly, but you have to be willing to put up with the downtime involved. Chemical peels, whether small or large, can benefit the overall texture and tone of your skin and can have you back to being you in sometimes as little as 3-5 days.

The biggest misconception with chemical peels is that you are going to be “unacceptable” looking for 2 weeks, and that is just not the case. Here at Hull, we offer a wide variety of peels that can be done the day of an event all the way to peels that are going to offer huge results, but have you peeling for 7-10 days.

I love getting a chemical peel, mainly because it gives me an excuse not to wear makeup for a week, but also because it is an amazing conversation starter between my patients and I. I am amazed every time by how many patients are interested but have never been told the different varieties and options of peels that are available to them.

Chemical peels are also a phenomenal way to jump start a new skincare regimen...slough off the old and start new!

Meet with any of our aestheticians today for your complimentary consultation and discuss what peel is best for you. Tell them Kendall sent ya :)
