Welcome
With the current snow conditions seriously hampering our on course activity, you may think that we are sitting here twiddling our thumbs. Far from it!
Yes, we may have had many NBT's, short for "Nil By Till" days, but we haven't let that dampen our spirits or enthusiasm, as off course we have been very busy planning and preparing for our season ahead, as well as implementing current coaching initiatives and personal development opportunities.
Further on in the Club News section we report on a new Membership promotion and the recent hugely successful Burns Supper.
Don’t forget, if there is anything that you would like to discuss about your equipment, game or golf in general, please come into the Pro Shop at any time. We need the company!!

PGA Show, Orlando
One of my last duties as outgoing Chairman of the TGI Partnership, our retail buying group, was to attend the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando.
Having attended the last 3 years, the size and scale of the event has less of an immediate impact, but you still can't be amazed at a Show that attracts over 1000 golf companies and over 41,000 delegates.
Current Masters Champion, Bubba Watson officailly opened the event and was joined by the likes of Graeme McDowell, Greg Norman and Lexi Thompson, helping create the usual hype and razamattaz that you usually find in America.
Callaway was a notable big player attracting a lot of interest, but the biggest overall winner was the game of golf which seems to have bottomed out over there and the bounce has attracted a lot of positivity and optimism about the future of the game.
I sincerely hope that we are soon to feel the ripple effect of their positivity!!!

TGI Business Conference
I have just returned from our annual 2 Day Business Conference in Manchester, an event that is attended by 150 delegates learning on various aspects of our business.
Particularly relevant were presentations on Flightscope and the technical benefits of having an indoor swing studio for both coaching and club fitting. In this type of weather this will definitely merit further investigations.
Social Media campaigns through FaceBook, Twitter and LinkedIn were also top of the agenda along with improved stock positioning and how quickly it is rotated through the year.
Finally we were treated to an in depth look at the putting stroke by Dr Paul Hurrion of Quintic Consultancy measuring the interactions of the ball and putter during the process.
All in all, a productive 2 days learning from both the presenters and the other 150 Golf Professionals in attendance.

Corporate Opportunities
We have been working with YOB Golf (Your Own Brand) to provide a full product corporate brochure letting you see the many products that you could potentially see your Company logo on.
Whether this be for your very own Golf Event or just for promotion or exposure of your own brand, I'm sure you'll see many different ideas on how this could become very successful for your own company.
All we would need is a jpeg file of your logo and we would get the design team to provide artwork and costs on how effective this may look on any item in the brochure.
With very low minimum order quantities this can all be achieved on a relatively low budget.
Give us a call to discuss or click here for a look at the brochure

Teaching Zone - Strike a Hammer Blow for More Power!!!
European Tour star Danny Willett tells Today’s Golfer how you can generate more power in your swing
In the swing, much of your speed is let out through your shoulders, wrists and elbows. Each of these joints loads and releases, just as you’d do naturally when using a hammer. The better you can match up their motion, the more speed you create. But with my old ‘inside’ takeaway, I couldn’t co-ordinate this motion. Picture a hammer motion, with it working to the side of your body; once the hands and arms work round behind you, creating speed in the right direction is hard. This is how to use your arms efficiently.

Membership Referal Scheme
As we continue to strive to increase our golf membership base, we are now offering a referal scheme. Therefore, if a current member introduces a new member to the Club, he/she will receive 20% of the current year's annual fee, for every new member that is introduced.
-
For example in Feb 2015 the remaining balance of the subscription based on 8/12th of £900 =£600 The discount for the remaining year would be 20% of this which equates to £120 in Year 1.
-
The proposal would also be to give the current member a 20% discount in Year 2. Based on the current annual subscription of £900 this would equate to a saving £180
New Member:
-
Subscription Year 1 = £600 less 20% = £480
-
Subscription Year 2 = £900 less 20% = £720
Existing Member:
-
Subscription Year 1 = £600 less 20% = £480
-
Subscription Year 2 = £900 less 20% = £720
Introduce 5 New Members

Burns Supper
Club Captain Archie Malcolm was instrumental in organising a 5 Star cast of speakers to address the mixed audience at our recent Burns Supper. The night was a huge success with many members commenting on the content of the traditional speeches and the quality of the food and it's service.
Indeed the Club received the following email from Club Member Jim Boyd already looking to reserve his tickets for next year!
"I felt compelled to write to thank Archie, yourself and fellow committee members for organising the excellent Burns Supper on Saturday.
I have had the pleasure of attending many Burns Suppers in varied locations and formats over the years, however this was my first experience of a Cawder Burns Supper ( not sure when last held ).
Ruby and I,our fellow table members and wives, and many other guests we spoke to ,agreed it was a memorable occasion and one we all hope becomes a permanent fixture in the Cawder Social Calendar.
Carol Wilson and her staff provided an excellent, traditional meal complemented by friendly service.
All of the speakers and varied artistes and especially Rev.Mark Johnstone's superb ' Immortal Memory 'contributed to making a lighthearted and fun-night.

Over the last month with the temperatures falling and the snow cover reaching 75mm, we have been busy with some drainage work on the 6th and 7th fairways on the Keir course, repairing bridges and steps on both courses, and covering the steps with the latest non slip material to keep everyone safe, we have also extended an AstroTurf path from the 9th green down the 10th rough on the Cawder course, and tidied up the heavy rough to the right of the 16th path on the cawder course by removing the grass and covering this area with bark giving the hole more visual character.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH
Great to see Past Captain Bob Graham down at the Club this week, he came over to see the new steps being built on the 15th tee and gave the thumbs up, "apart from the colour they are excellent" he said
(Bob being a supporter of that other famous Glasgow team Partick Thistle I think ?)
Photographs, Bob Graham and Derek Organ (member of the year again) for his tireless voluntarily work assisting the green staff.

Only 2 to go!!!
Having completed all the Scottish links that are on the Open Championship rota, last week it was time to tick another of the English venues of the list.
Having visited Royal Lytham & St.Annes whilst down at the Business Conference last year, it was the turn of Royal Liverpool GC this year.
A great course and a great venue in great condition. Most enjoyable at this time of year.
Only Birkdale & Royal St.Georges left to do!!!
