CPC High Schoolers to Develop Green Roofs in New Parks Department ProgramThrough CPC Work, Learn, Grow (WLG) Environmental Corps program, eight high school students became part of the NYC Parks Department’s newly-established Youth Sustainability Corps. This is a four-month paid program that aims to combat climate change by expanding the city’s green roofs infrastructure. Home Care in New York State: Facts by the Numbers CPC Home Attendant Program, Inc. (CPCHAP) cares deeply about our 4,500 home care workers and our 3,000 home care patients. CPCHAP recognizes that 24-hour shifts are unsustainable and unfair to the 2.5% of our workforce who takes on those cases, which is why change at the State-level is needed. CPC and Essex Market Partner to Organize Weekly Healthy Cooking Classes CPC Childhood Development Services has partnered with Essex Market to provide our families access and exposure to locally sourced food within our community. Originally conceived as a month long series of hands-on cooking demonstrations, the program has since added three more classes! Flushing Mobility Collaborative Launches Workforce Readiness Program The Flushing Mobility Collaborative is launching a pilot program featuring a series of jobs and career readiness workshops for individuals between the ages of 17 and 24 that are not currently enrolled in school. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age. CPC Early Childhood Learning and Wellness to Distribute Home COVID Tests to Child Care Providers CPC Early Childhood Learning and Wellness (ECLW) is pleased to announce we are partnering with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) to distribute more than 14,800 at-home COVID-19 test kits to licensed/registered child care programs in New York City. School Age Child Care, Group Family Day Care, and Family Day Care centers can contact CPC ECLW to receive tests. Senior Residents of Hong Ning Housing Cross-Stitch for Lunar New Year Luck The senior residents of Hong Ning Housing prepared for the upcoming Lunar New Year by participating in a cross-stitching class. The seniors made the character "Fu", which symbolizes "good luck" in the New Year. CPC Brooklyn Community Services Partners With Heart of Dinner and GrowNYCCPC Brooklyn Community Services partners with Heart of Dinner and GrowNYC to continue to provide meals weekly to community members! CPC has distributed more than 382,000 lbs. of food to community members across the five boroughs since the pandemic began.CPC and GrowNYC Partner to Host Monthly Seminars CPC and GrowNYC are partnering to host the "Let's Talk Veggies" seminar every month. In January, staff from GrowNYC discussed fermenting vegetables. All sessions are held virtually, and Mandarin interpretation is provided. These virtual workshops also aim to educate participants in various city programs, like the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program and SNAP, about market resource available to them. COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENTWe empower New Yorkers to represent and to advocate for themselves and their communities because their leadership is essential for positive—and lasting—social change. We engage with individuals to plan and develop their career paths because professional success is critical for economic independence. CPC's Lois C. Lee is Honored Among City and State's 50 Over 50 Lois C. Lee is the leader of the eponymous Lois C. Lee Early Childhood Center in Queens. Lee, whose Flushing-based universal prekindergarten center was opened in 2017, got her start over 50 years ago as a part-time teacher in Chinatown. She now plays a central role at CPC, from mentoring volunteers and staff to community organizing and advocating for quality child care services in the city and state. CPC Statement on the FY2022-23 NYS Executive Budget CPC acknowledges Governor Hochul’s proposed historic $216.3 billion State budget and we encourage the Governor’s Office and State Legislature to pass a FY22-23 budget that more fully meets the needs of Asian American & Pacific Islanders (AAPI), communities of color, immigrants, low-income New Yorkers, women, and human services workers. CPC Open Door Senior Center Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary Founded in 1972, CPC's Open Door Senior Center provides essential programs benefiting our older adult community through social services, nutritious meals, education, and recreation in a safe and welcoming space. The Center, located in a historic, landmarked building in Chinatown, serves more than 600 members ages 60 and above daily. Community-Based Home Care Workgroup Policy Priorities The Community-Based Home Care Workgroup consists of 11 nonprofit home care agencies collectively serving nearly 11,000 community members a year across the five boroughs of New York City. The Workgroup Policy Priorities include ending the Medicaid global cap, fully funding 24-hour home care, and passing Fair Pay for Home Care and the New York Health Act.
