Kick the Dust challenges organisations to improve youth engagement

Heritage Lottery Fund has launched Kick the Dust, a £10million pilot programme aimed at encouraging the heritage and youth sectors to explore new ways of working with young people. 

Supporting the Government’s Culture White Paper priority to involve young people more effectively in the UK’s culture, it will see youth and heritage organisations work together to make heritage relevant and inclusive for 11 to 25 year olds.

RESOURCE | Museums for Health and Wellbeing preliminary report

“In recent years there has been a considerable increase in programmes not only to improve health and wellbeing, but also to provide accessible education, boost vocational skills, support people with special educational needs (SEN) and work with some of the most marginalised people in society such as offenders, people living in poverty and refugees.

This report describes the wealth of activity around health, wellbeing and social care that museums and galleries are already offering across the UK, and provides the context in which the National Alliance for Museums, Health and Wellbeing was established.”

Project to explore challenges facing carers working in the arts

An action research programme aims to find more and better solutions to the problem of juggling family commitments with a career in the performing arts.

A consortium of arts sector organisations has launched a major project aiming to identify barriers facing carers working in the performing arts and investigate practical ways of reducing them.

Green Party calls for youth minister role in government

The Green Party has called for the introduction of a dedicated minister for youth following a report that found young people in Britain are “a generation in crisis”.

A recent study by the Young Women's Trust found many young people are putting their lives on hold because of financial, housing and work problems, with young women worst affected.



The poll of 4,000 18- to 30-year-olds found that 43 per cent still live at home and a quarter have had to move back in with their parents because they cannot afford to live independently.
