Edition 50,  2022

Hi Friend,

Welcome to the 50th Ediition of our electronic version of Brainwaves!

Prior to emailing our newsletters to you, Bec in our Launceston office used to print them all out, fold and stuff them into envelopes, stick stamps on, then take them to the post office where they took about a week to get to you - how did we ever manage without email?!

Technology has allowed us to work more efficently and cost effectively: our website too has evolved into a comprehensive hub of information for people seeking to know more about epilepsy and how to access support. Our social media pages have become a way for Tasmanians to connect with each other and discuss anything and everything related to epilepsy. And now our new fundraising platform is allowing people to manage their own awareness and fundraising events with easy ability to share and promote them digitally.

With all this advancing technology we can't help but be optimist that one day science will find a cure for epilepsy. In the meantime, we continue our daily focus of providing support that will improve the lives of Tasmanians who live with epilepsy, letting more people know about this condition and raising money for medical research and our own continuing existence.

In this edition we have some photos to look back on March - an annual time where epilepsy charities around Australia come together for Epilepsy Awareness Month.

As always, be in touch if you have any thoughts or need additional information.

ps. We are still on the lookout for around 150m2 of new office space in the Launceston CBD. If you know of somewhere, please tell us.

Wendy Groot,  CEO Epilepsy Tasmania.

Government House Tasmania

Our reception at Goverment House Tasmania was a very special event and we would like to thank Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers, AO.

Both were kind and gracious hosts who took the time to listen to everyone's journey with epilepsy and will no doubt have much more understanding and knowledge to pass on about the impact this conditon has on people's lives.

Did you see our March Talking Point in the Mercury Newspaper?

If you missed it, we encourage you to click the link below and read how epilepsy turns someone else's life upside down every 33 minutes.

Moments By Seer

We are proud to partner for another year of the Moments by Seer campaign.

This year's campaign will start next week and features 10 interviewees whose lives have been touched by epilepsy in the hope of spreading epilepsy awareness and breaking its stigma.

Follow them on Facebook or read their blog to see how differently epilepsy affects individuals:
