Post-award Disclosure of Support, In-Kind Contribution Information to NSF
If a PI on an active NSF grant did not disclose support or in-kind contribution information, OSP/BMRA must submit it within 30 calendar days of when non-disclosure is identified. Contact a Pre-Award OSP staff member with questions. 

United Kingdom No Longer Part of Open Skies Agreement
Effective January 1, 2021, the United Kingdom is no longer a part of the European Union (EU). Therefore, the Open Skies Agreement with EU countries no longer applies to the United Kingdom. 

eRA Reminder: Switch Early to the New Secure Two-Factor Authentication
Users of eRA Commons, ASSIST, Internet Assisted Review (IAR) and Commons Mobile are encouraged to begin switching to the new two-factor authentication login method required to access eRA modules before the September 15 deadline. 

Save the Virtual  Date for the Brown Bag Training
Our  next OSP Quarterly Brown Bag session will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 2pm to 4pm.  This Brown Bag will be virtual and a link to join the meeting will be sent out a day or so before. Everyone is welcome.

Streaming Now: More Patent Awards and Disclosures to Brown
Last month, Brown was awarded three new patents for work in batteries, three-dimensional computation, and nano-materials. Also, with 54 disclosures before the third quarter was out, we passed the total for the entire previous year. Read more.

A Year Later, Brown’s Contributions to COVID Solutions
Looking back a year since COVID 19 hit the US—we see Brown inventors who pivoted to find ways to address the pandemic. Our blog shares two stories: a ventilator (Brun02) and nanomaterials that can be used in PPE, air purifiers.

NHGRI Metadata and Phenotypic Data Sharing Expectations                              Starting in June, NHGRI will require all projects subject to its existing data sharing policies to share metadata and phenotypic data associated with the study, and use standardized data collection protocols and standardized notation for metadata.

Shipping Research Materials Abroad
Sending research materials to collaborators abroad may require an export license. You must ensure shipments comply with export control regulations, as well as shipping policies and regulations. Questions? Contact ORI’s Export Control Team. 

Virtual engagements with Iran
If invited to give a virtual talk, participate in virtual seminars or conferences in Iran or another comprehensively embargoed country, a license from the Office of Foreign Assets Control may be required. Contact ORI for a review of activity or with questions. 

IACUC Policies Updated and Approved
The following policies/SOPs have been recently updated and approved: Aseptic Technique for USDA Covered Species; Assigning Pain and Distress Categories. All IACUC policies can be found here. 

Human Subjects Research Data Use Agreements
If you’re receiving identifiable or private data from an outside party for human subjects research, or share such data with a third party, review ORI's comprehensive guidance document outlining data use agreement processes.  

HRPP/IRB Q&A Sessions featuring CIS
Have questions about human subjects research, associated software and data security? The HRPP/IRB is teaming up with Computing & Information Services for March virtual open hours. RSVPs will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Updated IRB Consent Addendum                                                                                  The MRI Research Facility Informed Consent Addendum has been updated to provide important information about MRI scans and safety procedures. All new studies proposing to use Brown's MRI Facility must use this document.

Updated IRB Policy: Education & Training
The updated IRB Policy on Education and Training in the Conduct of Human Subjects Research defines the required education and training requirements for all  involved in the conduct of human subjects research activities. 

Updated IRB Policy: Participant Recruitment
The Policy on the Recruitment of Human Subjects Research Participants describes the expectations and responsibilities of research personnel regarding the equitable recruitment of human subjects.

Criteria for Applications Submitted for NIH Support for Scientific Conference
Applications for conference grants now require a diversity plan. A recent Guide Notice announced that reviewers will be asked to evaluate the plan and factor it into the overall impact score.

Childcare Costs for National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Fellow
To support family-friendly work environments for the NIH-supported workforce, NIH will begin providing childcare support to recipients of NRSA fellowships on or after April 8, 2021.
