Support for GPs and Primary Care

When you work in Primary Care and you’re seeking support, it can feel overwhelming to know where to look or even know what it is you’re looking for.  With this in mind, Primary Care Careers have worked with the national team to ensure everything included on their new ‘support for people working in primary care’ page is accessible to all working in primary care.  The new page is available for all to view, and people can access it whenever they want on any mobile device or PC that they feel comfortable using.  The page has three main sections: coaching, training, and health & wellbeing to give you a start point for support.  It’s easy to use and we would encourage you to take a look at the page and bookmark it so you can return to it easily.

An LMC document has also been produced to summarise the support available to GPs.

Consultation on GP Incentive Schemes

Incentive schemes based on clinical indicators have been part of practice income for almost 20 years. Feedback is being sought as to whether these schemes are working, and, if not, what the alternative mechanisms are that could encourage proactive care, outcomes and clinically led quality improvement.

There is an open consultation by the government on the Role of incentive schemes in general practice, which we think will be of interest. The consultation was launched on the 14 December 2023, and is due to close at 11:59pm, on 7 March 2024.

National Audit Office’s Financial Study

The National Audit Office (NAO) are doing a value for money study entitled Financial management of the NHS in England. The link takes you to the full terms of reference their last interim report from 2020.

In short, the NAO are looking to examine the extent to which the NHS in England is managing its resources well day-to-day. Herts and West Essex ICB has been chosen as one of their case studies, and this would usually involve talks with ICB and trust leads, due to them being public bodies. However, they are also keen to get the voice of Primary Care due to its core part in the health service.
