What's New?
Celebrate Mother's Day with a Brick at the Square!

Purchase a brick at the Square this Mother's Day! Join the nearly 75,000 Portlanders that own a piece of our city's living room. Named bricks make great gifts and include gift wrapping, a frameable certificate, and a map of your brick's location upon installation! Purchase a brick for yourself or a loved one.

Inscriptions can include up to 18 characters on a standard keyboard. Proceeds from each brick sale support maintenance and programming of the park.

The next brick installation is scheduled for July 2017. To be included, brick orders need to be completed by May 19.

Partnering For Diversity on the Parks Replacement Bond Construction

For the Parks Replacement Bond renovations at Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland Parks & Recreation is directing 36% of construction dollars for the project through minority-owned, women-owned, and emerging small businesses, far exceeding the City of Portland’s goal of 20%. On this project, approximately 2,000 hours of work are being performed by these businesses. This diverse participation is thanks to a unique partner agreement that contractor Howard S. Wright established with Faison Construction, a local minority-owned firm.

HSW provides oversight and acts as Faison’s mentor while Faison manages the interior renovations at the Square, including the new all-user public restrooms and the subcontractors. These partnerships allow emerging businesses to gain experience and build capacity. By working with Howard S. Wright on past projects, Faison has transitioned to becoming a general contractor that is better able to contribute to future local projects. Faison’s owner, James Faison, is thrilled that the City understands the benefits of building a team that reflects the diversity of its community.

This week, crews will continue to lay waterproof membrane on the upper tier of the Square, restore the waterfall fountain at the entrance to the Visitor Information Center, and begin work on the HVAC system inside. For more information on the Parks Replacement Bond, click here.

Food Cart at the Square

Pioneer Courthouse Square is accepting applications for food cart operators to participate in an enhanced culinary experience in our City’s Living Room. Reflecting the Square’s history of creating an active and vibrant public space for Portlanders and visitors to enjoy in the heart of downtown, the Square is seeking diverse vendors to augment the Square’s current on-site food vendors and tenants.

Working in partnership with Mike Thelin, Portland-based food consultant, co-founder of Feast Portland, and curator of Pine Street Market, the Square is looking to become home to some of the City’s top food carts. This new urban amenity will reinforce the Square’s role as an inviting gathering space for Portlanders to meet friends or colleagues, grab a quick bite, take in an event, and enjoy our City’s prized public space.
