Did someone say…In August, the Ad Standards Community Panel (the Community Panel) looked at complaints about two advertisements for a fast food company. Complainants were concerned about sexual innuendos and car park safety. The Community Panel dismissed the complaints finding they did not breach any section of the AANA Code of Ethics. Helium voiceComplaints about an advertisement for vehicles were dismissed by the Community Panel. The ad featured talking in a voice similar to someone who has sucked in helium from a balloon. The Panel found that the focus of the ad was the promotion of the sale and did not encourage people to inhale helium. Glo-ball warmingComplaints about an advertisement for underwear which featured cooling technology, were dismissed by the Community Panel. Complainants were concerned about the language used and that it was discriminatory to men, but the Panel found that the ad did not breach the AANA Code of Ethics.
