We can now formally announce the dates and venues for three of our four 2023 majors. We are still finalising this year's TSG OPEN venue but otherwise, all our 'birdies' are in a row. This year sees us return to the ever-improving South Essex Golf Club, the original venue of the very first TSG OPEN in 2011 AND the 2019 TSG Masters. Situated just outside Brentwood in Essex (with easy access from J29 on the M25), it provides the ideal location for a relaxing game of golf in tranquil surroundings with many mature trees and water hazards, and superb greens. In addition, they have recently re-landscaped all of the courses, added new cart paths, restored the Greens to PGA standard, and are also currently building a new Golf Academy, Indoor Golf Simulators, and Practice Range. They have even added two Padel Courts during reconstruction. If you haven't visited South Essex GC in a while, now is the time to revisit! TSG BLOG: Setting Season Goals Golf is a game of both patience and application but do you set yourself targets at the start of every golfing year? We asked Darren Redwood of Leading Courses to give us his views and his approach to each new season.Last year’s challenge. At the start of each year, I always sit down to think about my golf and the expectations I have for the year ahead. Of course, each year is different, but last year was a particularly tough golfing year for me. I have been a ‘self-taught’ golfer for 20 years and played a lot of cricket, so hand-eye wasn’t an issue, but I decided I wanted some lessons with the ambition of;1) Being able to hit a ‘draw’ consistently 2) Lowering my Handicap Index from 4.1 to 3.0 As I sit here in January 2023 my handicap is 6.0. Despite not fully achieving my goals, what I have achieved (which wasn’t on my list) is understanding the golf swing a lot better. I’m not saying I know it all, but through the bad times (of which there have been plenty, and I’m sure many more to come), I now understand the cause of my bad shots, which is a positive! New Year, New Golf Season, New Goals...This year, my goals are to focus on playing more courses rather than trying to focus on my handicap. With regular practice and less focus on it, I feel my handicap will come down (hopefully!). The bucket list functionality that Leading Courses offers is a really simple way of adding courses to your ‘play-list’, which gives me a great reference and acts as a reminder. I’ve added 18 courses to my Leading Courses profile bucket list, which currently covers 7 countries including England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, and Sweden. If I can play 75% of these courses in 2023, I will be happy. Finally, listed below are a few more of my goals:
In a year’s time, I wonder whether I’ll be looking back on a successful year of golfing or not. My advice to every golfer is to set some goals and then review them every three months to see if you’re making progress (or not!) #GoodLuck TSG TRAVEL PARTNERS: February Offers Their impartial advice is second to none, and with more years of experience in the team than they would like to admit, they will find the perfect escape for you and your group. TSG LEADERBOARD: (sponsored by 2fore1.co.uk) December Winner John Barber at Sueno GC, Turkey with 43 pts. January Winner Steve Diamon at Brentwood GC, Essex with 44 pts. The TSG GREEN towels are on their way to you! COURSE REVIEW: The Grove, Watford, London, UK. Superb condition!Yes, it is an expensive pay-and-play course, but there are no members at this club! You get what you pay for! Complimentary yardage books, tees, and drinks are all waiting for you on the first tee. The course for this time of the year is in absolutely superb condition. The fairways are like carpets and the greens are excellent. The upkeep of the course is fantastic and it is an absolute pleasure to play on. Furthermore, the holes have really interesting layouts and some great finishing holes. I would definitely come back here to play when I have saved up a few quid!! Guinness is about £7 a pint in the Stables Bar which doubles up as the clubhouse after your round. If you get the chance, play it as you will not regret it. John Donaldson (H'cap Index 11)
