March 2019 News

UPG will present for the fourth year at CAFO. This year we'll explore how to talk about adoption when women are facing a surprise (unplanned) pregnancy.
Should be exciting!

"The Tough Sell:  Suggesting Adoption in Pregnancy/Medical Clinics"

This is the subject of our workshop at the national CAFO Conference in early May 2019 in Louisville, KY.

I'm teaming up with my local women's clinic, Real Options/Obria, to present on discussing adoption as an option with women facing an unplanned pregnancy.  We're calling it,

"The Tough Sell:  Suggesting Adoption in Pregnancy/Medical Clinics.
What happens after, “… I could never do that!”

NOTE that Obria's clinics are among the 12,000 clinics across the country that offer a spectrum of women's health care.

Heartbeat Conf - Workshop on Birthparent Support

Teaming up with Lifetime Adoptions to present at the Heartbeat Conference in April in Dallas. Our topic for this new workshop is support for birthparents, post-placement.

I'm learning a LOT in the process of preparing our workshop - by the time we get to Dallas, I'll have an entire list of birthparent support resources to share with you and post to our web site.

It's our hope that society will start to do a better job -- do more! -- to support these women after they choose adoption for their babies.

Heartbeat is holding their 48th Annual Pregnancy Help Conference this year.  Check out details here.

Our post-placement survey of birthparents has 87 responses so far!  If you know of a birthparent who has completed an adoption plan, please encourage them to take our survey.

New Adoption Story from BirthMom Dominique

I met Dominique at CAFO in Dallas last year when she served on our birthmom panel. This year she'll be back at CAFO on the main stage!

Here's her story:

The one thread that runs through every birthparent story I've ever read is that it was the most difficult decision ever, but made from the most profound love.

Please, be ready to advocate for adoption 24/7, any time the opportunity presents itself!

You can also read stories on our site from people who were adopted.  Find out their thoughts first hand! Click here.

Donate now

With two conference workshops we're presenting this Spring (above), we'd appreciate some help funding those two trips across the country. You can donate just once or set up a monthly donation.  We use donations to cover our travel expenses so we can spread the word about adoption at national conferences. Funds also cover our web fees and other expenses.
Thank you so much for helping us spread the word about adoption as an option.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Fewer than 0.5% of women facing unplanned pregnancy make an adoption plan?
  • When they do, it's because an adult in their life encouraged them to consider adoption?
  • There are over one million U.S. couples waiting now to adopt?

Why are we doing this?
Young women are 50% MORE likely to make an adoption plan when the trusted adult in their life suggests it to them. Otherwise, most girls don't give it a thought and choose between abortion or single parenting. That's why we need to get this on the radar of more people.

About Unplanned Good

We promote adoption as a positive option for those facing unplanned pregnancies. It can be so very good (and beautiful!) for all involved.

Unplanned Good is reaching out to both teens and their parents, to let them know that adoption is an option. Studies have shown that girls are 50% more likely to see their pregnancy through and make an adoption plan when an adult suggests this path.

Please visit our site, and encourage others to see it. Read the encouraging, heartfelt stories there.  Send in your own story, and ask a friend to do the same.
