Permanent Small Business Rate Relief Scheme for Wales

The Welsh Government has announced that a permanent Small Business Rate Relief scheme (SBRR) will be introduced from 1st April 2018.

Good news for Welsh ratepayers as Welsh Government confirms business rates switch to CPI

The Finance Secretary, Mark Drakeford, has announced an extra £9m and £22m will be allocated in the final Budget in 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively, to support the switch from RPI to CPI for business rates in Wales from April 2018.

Phillip Hammond confirmed in the Autumn Statement the switch in England from the retail price index (RPI) measure of inflation to the lower consumer price index (CPI) would come in to effect on 1st April 2018, two years earlier than expected.   CPI has traditionally almost always been lower than RPI, so is seen as a fairer index.
