Woo-Hoo Wednesday!

Welcome to Edition 35 of the Collective Hub Mini Mag.

It's Wednesday and we couldn't be more excited. Why? you ask, well, why the hell not? We're smack bang in the middle of a crazy, fun, productive week and we have LOTS of great things in store for you.

Lisa has just come back from NYC and has shared her musings about the city that never sleeps, along with some of her very favourite spots to eat, shop, and play.

We've pulled together a guide of the best apps for harnessing work/life balance.

Our designers Emily & Helen are currently putting together the most amazing product ranges we've ever dreamt up, and have also created a beautiful cover update for Daily Mantras to Ignite Your Purpose. Enter a pop of red, the colour of fire and blood, often associated with energy, strength, power, and determination, as well as passion, desire, and love. You can check out the design update below, or click here to head straight to the product page and pre-order your copy (due to arrive next month).

Also on the design front, this week's edition includes some fresh new Digital Wallpapers for your smartphones, because who doesn't love a little update for the personal device we use most?

Wishing you a gloriously joyful week full of exciting achievements,
The Collective Hub Team xx ♥︎

Hi guys,

So, I've just come back from 6 days in NYC. Short and sweet. I'm hyper-aware of how fortunate I am to be able to travel so I make sure to be very present wherever I go, but I must admit, I have a love-hate relationship with NYC.

Whaaaat?!!! I hear you say.

Well, I LOVE it for business and inspiration.

What really struck me this trip which I loved was the overabundance of new probiotics, natural remedies, and all things wellness being so mainstream across almost every retail experience.

I don’t love it so much for the frenetic pace, smog, and lack of nature.

But let's focus on the love.

Below you'll find a list of the places and things I found most inspirational in the past six days. Enjoy.

Big Love, Lisa x

Inspiration

  • Naked Retail – some of the most progressive wellness solutions – absolutely LOVE this store (includes brands such as @beam, @ devialet, @sheridanretail, @seedlipsocial, @asystem, @hers, @hims) and as with many places in NYC there is a big expression of all things CBD oil and mushroom related products (yet to become mainstream in Australia).
  • ABC Carpet and Home – sustainable, energy-conscious, organic, recycled, ethical and so so beautiful. Some of the most fabulously forward thinking products in furniture, homewares, wellness, and beauty.
  • Amazon Go (we visited the new concept in the financial district.  You literally scan your phone, walk-in, pick your goods, walk out. Cameras track what you bought and charge accordingly)
  • Camp (near Union Square) – one of the coolest retail concepts for children. Enter through a secret bookcase – behind which is a world of creativity, art, movement, and play.
  • Chains such as Sweetgreen – really leading the charge in terms of simple healthy food with really high tech pick up experiences

Nature Fix

  • Highline for walks (although at this time of year pretty much everything was dormant). Nevertheless a great vista and aspect.
  • Central Park and a quick visit to the Met (150 years of celebrations)
  • Air Baths in Tribeca

Food

  • Hudson Yard and Little Spain – the hottest new place everyone is talking about
  • ABCV – plant based, non GMO, sustainable, artisanal and organic.  My fave eating experience!
  • Chelsea Markets (I’ve been dropping in there ever since I first went to NYC)
  • Dante in West Village for lunch (try the Pappardelle Al’Ragu)  - voted the best bar in the world last year

With so many of us on high alert, I wanted to have a stab at synthesising some information on Coronavirus from an economic, social and mindset perspective.

Its only March and this year, and in Australia we’ve had drought, bushfires, floods, cyclones and now Coronavirus.

Around all of these things, there has been a lot of drama, fear, catastrophising, obsessive behavior, chaos, and misinformation. Some of this the media is responsible for as they play the most dramatic of situations on repeat offering little actual solutions or hope.

So let's have a look at a few things – both in terms of negative and positive. Positive you say – how can any of this be positive? Bear with me… surely by now, you know I’m the Queen of mindset flip and finding a silver lining …

So economically – it's not great. Take my business – which like many of us, is probably just a very small microscopic example of how we’re being affected.  The magority of our print products are produced in China. So … much of our production has come to a grinding halt, which has a domino effect – speed to market, cashflow, expectant customers, etc. So what can we do? Well, longer-term I think we all need to diversify our manufacturing and not be so reliant on any one source for our supply chain - for instance, we can look at producing more products locally. Shorter-term, we can look at diversifying our revenue lines, think on our feet, and look at more digital products that aren't geographically dependent.

We need to start employing more divergent and disruptive approaches to business.

Working on the move just got a whole lot
easier with these handy little helpers

1. PAUSE
Simply set a time, smack in some earbuds and do what you’re told by this audiovisual app that hopes to bring mindfulness to your day. We like the ‘mindful touch’ function, which involves gently gliding your finger around your phone screen. If you need to keep your eyes on the road, its sister app, Sway, has variations
for ‘mindful walking’.

2. ANTISOCIAL
On average, people touch their smartphones 2617 times a day; that’s why this app tracks exactly how much time you spend on your device. Be more mindful about your usage or use the app to block life-wasting social media and apps.

3. BUDDHIFY
Buddhify boasts 11 hours of meditations designed to squeeze some peace into every part of your day, from commuting, all the way through work, to when you hit the sack.

4. FOCUS BOOSTER
Harnessing the power of the Pomodoro Technique – an approach designed to increase productivity by tackling tasks in short bursts, with breaks in between – this app combats the ‘cycle of distractions’ by timing your work sessions and automatically creating a timesheet. Hello, freelancers!
