Dear Friends,

Welcome to the first edition of the Loreto Networker for 2019!  As I write Loreto Australia and South East Asia concludes a fortnight of rich and full meetings:  the Loreto Ministries’ Board, Loreto Justice Network, Province Council and Community Leaders’ meetings to name a few.  Across the early part of this year we have also welcomed to our ‘circle of friends’ new board members, school staff, students and parents, a new Executive Director for Loreto Vietnam, Mr Dung Viet Nguyen, and commissioned Ms Marina Ugonotti as the new Principal at Loreto Normanhurst. We are truly blessed in the diversity of friends engaged in the Loreto enterprise across Australia, Timor-Leste, Vietnam and the Philippines in Province projects, the work of Loreto Ministries, Mary Ward International and Loreto Vietnam. When I consider the human experience impacted positively by our Sisters and colleagues I am truly humbled and grateful.

These have been challenging days for the Catholic church in Australia and a most distressing climate for those impacted by abuse scandals in our church. Loreto Australia and South East Asia affirms its mission to work for healing and justice in our land and church.

March is dotted with the beginning of Lent, celebration of International Women’s Day, Loreto Schools Australia Leadership Teams’ Conference and the IBVM Extended Leadership Team Meeting in Nairobi. These experiences provide a purposeful framework for rich reflection on our heritage, current reality and future ministry on an individual level, but also corporate discernment at the level of Community, School, Province and Generalate. Snapshots of these events are regularly posted on our Loreto Australia and South East Asia Facebook page for your perusal.

The aim of Loreto Networker is to develop connections across the broad web of our land and region; to keep you abreast of people, projects and Province priorities. In the Loreto Schools Year of Sincerity, the Networker also affirms and challenges us to be who we appear and appear such as we are as disciples of Jesus and members of a graced cohort  inspired by ‘that indomitable woman’, Mary Ward. I ask for your prayers as the Loreto network continues to deepen and develop across 2019. Thank you for your continued interest, support and encouragement.
