logo PACS Transformation Programme NHS Update

Welcome

Spring is here and we are well on our way to our next major milestone. In June we are planning for the exit of 24 trusts across London, the North East, Yorkshire, East Midlands and East of England. Localising the data belonging to all these trusts before they exit remains a key focus for both the programme and our suppliers at present.

The regional exit boards (London, North East, Yorkshire & Humber and East of England & East Midlands) are continuing to support trusts through their exit and planning their future under local contracts.

BT update

The London PACS Exit Programme has a total of 27 trusts to exit prior to July 2015; this comprises 21 local service providers (LSPs) and six legacy connections to the central data store.

In June this year, we will see five LSP and three legacy trusts exit from the London PACS contract, with a further six LSP trusts set to exit in the proceeding six months.

All trusts in London have now commenced the procurement of their replacement systems, with the majority of them at the supplier selection stage. All trusts will have completed the procurements and new system rollouts in time to exit the contract by July 2015.

The majority of trusts in London have also commenced data localisation from MIA and look to be on target to exit on time. There are one or two challenges, as with any big programme, but we are working those through with those trusts involved and BT to try and overcome them.

The next London PACS exit board is set for 08 May 2014.

Accenture update

The NHS Supply Chain and Accenture have worked together with the Department of Health to offer a three-year aggregate deal which allows trusts to leverage existing assets.

10 trusts have now signed up to this deal and as a result will be able to exit the LSP contract in June this year - in some cases several months earlier than expected. In total, we are now expecting 16 trusts to exit in June 2014, to contracts with a number of suppliers; with a further seven due to exit by March 2015.

The challenges of ensuring all trusts are able to take control of their data in time for their exit, needs close co-ordination between the LSP supplier, incoming suppliers, trusts and the programme; and the message to trusts remains the same - procure a local storage solution as soon as you can to maximise your opportunity for localisation, and please keep us involved in the discussions as your plans develop.

The next regional exit board meetings are as follows:

  • NE, Yorks & Humber on 14 May
  • East of England & East Midlands on 06 May
