A lot is happening across Europe in the field of energy efficiency in buildings right now, and BUILD UP is closely following the developments.
Just a month ago, the Energy Efficiency Directive
was published in the Official Journal of the EU. Closely linked to this, the European Commission launched an Energy Performance Contracting campaign to promote and build capacity for Energy Performance Contracting and Energy Services COmpanies (ESCOs) throughout Europe.
Meanwhile, national plans on Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEBs) are progressing fast. The first national definitions are now available, as are the minutes from the workshop ‘Towards Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings – Definition of common principles under EPBD’.
Two recent overview articles summarise how the targets for energy efficiency are to be met in social housing, and how solar control can contribute to achieving NZEBs.
To radically improve building performance, new workmanship skills are required. In the framework of the BUILD UP Skills initiative, 30 EU countries are working on national roadmaps to qualifying the building workforce for the 2020 challenges. Already about 20 national teams have completed their analyses of the status quo. During the recent BUILD UP Skills EU Exchange Meeting, over 100 representatives shared information on the development of training roadmaps.
Material and presentations have been posted in the recently launched BUILD UP Skills website.
Finally, the BUILD UP Country Facts
page, provided in collaboration with the Concerted Action EPBD, is regularly upgraded with key information on national policies, regulations, registries, software, financing mechanisms, contacts and more. Check out, among others, the recently updated pages for Hungary, Poland
and Portugal. Some countries have already transposed the EPBD recast into national law.
If you believe you can contribute to improving the energy performance of Europe’s buildings, develop your own proposal for submission at the IEE Call for Proposals 2013 which has just opened! The deadline for submission is 8th May 2013 for all types of actions except the BUILD UP Skills initiative which has different deadlines.
Stay tuned to BUILD UP for more developments!
