A Year for Edema

This past season saw a return to a cold and cloudy spring for most growers.  This created challenges for growers that have not been seen in the past few years.  One such problem is edema (oedema).  Edema is a non-infectious, physiological disorder that commonly occurs on ivy geraniums, but is also seen on zonal geraniums, sweet potato vine, begonias, cacti and cleome.  In some cases it has been seen in vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and tomatoes.

Improving Homeowner Success with Wetting Agents

As we  approach the busy time of the year, now might be a good time to think about reducing customer questions about watering  hanging baskets.  We have all heard it before, “my baskets dry out too fast and the water runs right through when I water them. What should I do to keep them wet? ” This can be frustrating, but for a little investment in a wetting agent these complaints from retail customers and homeowners can be dramatically reduced.
