Making kebabs is a great way to get the whole family involved in the kitchen. Simply soak some bamboo skewers in water to ensure they don’t burn during the cooking process. Next, add a range of raw chopped vegetables and lean meat of your choice to each skewer. Brush with a little extra virgin olive oil and if you like, sprinkle with herbs and/or spices of your choice. Finally, grill the kebabs until they are cooked through, or to your liking. Here we’ve used chicken, red onion, red capsicum, zucchini and yellow capsicum. Change the ingredients to suit your and your family's food preferences, or to include what you have available. Let's Talk About Food WasteUnfortunately, food waste is a major issue that occurs on a global scale. Approximately one third of the food produced world wide is either lost or wasted. In Australia, around $20 billion worth of food is thrown out each year. Along with food wasted, the resources that went into producing that food are also wasted - such as energy, water and transport. It is incredibly important to consider how we can all minimise our own food waste, in order to protect the environment for many years to come. Brisbane City Council's Love Food Hate Waste campaign aims to raise awareness about reducing the volume of food waste going to Brisbane landfill each year. A few strategies to reduce food waste could be to ensure we are more mindful when purchasing food and planning meals, to store our food in appropriate conditions, and to make the most of using leftovers.
