CPC Hosts 4th Annual Queens Special Needs Summer Picnic On August 24th, CPC hosted our annual Queens Special Needs Summer Picnic, bringing together over 300 staff members and special-needs families for a fun-filled day of food, games, activities, useful resources, and meaningful connections at the Queens Botanical Garden. The event also presented findings from the New York Asian American and Pacific Islander Special Needs Survey, which highlighted the challenges faced by individuals with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. SinoVision Spotlights CPC Queens Adult Literacy Classes On August 21st, SinoVision interviewed Mollie Korewa, CPC Adult Literacy Assistant Director, and Carlyn Cowen, Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, about the demand for English learning classes and their impact. Mollie and Carlyn highlighted how these classes boost students' confidence and help them navigate different neighborhoods. Funding cuts to adult literacy programs have led to longer waitlists and unmet needs.
The Epoch Times Highlights Open Door OAC’s Ping Pong Competition On August 7th, The Epoch Times published an article on CPC Open Door Older Adult Center (OAC)'s 14th Annual Ping Pong Competition. The article noted how this Chinatown tradition continues to attract a wide range of participants, with this year’s event featuring an even more diverse group of players. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
CPC Awards Scholarship to a Learn and Earn Program Participant On August 19th, CPC presented a scholarship check to Chloe Chen, a participant in our Queens Learn and Earn program. Chloe is an exceptional student with a passion for learning and community service. She will pursue her passion for Human Biology at the University of California San Diego.
CPC Collaborates with IBM on Career Panel Event On August 8th, CPC partnered with IBM to host a Career Panel with tech professionals. IBM employees shared their career journeys and professional skills, and provided career advice to 26 youths who are currently exploring potential majors and careers in tech.
CPC Celebrates 16 Graduates of the Technology Exploration Student Track Program On August 10th, CPC hosted a graduation ceremony to celebrate with 16 community members who recently completed the TEST (Technology Exploration Student Track) program and earned their Google certification in Project Management. Out of the 16 graduates, 4 of them have already landed full-time positions.
CPC Little Star Students Enjoy Puppet Show at Seward Park On August 2nd, students from CPC Little Star Early Childhood Center attended a performance at Seward Park as part of City Parks Foundation’s PuppetMobile initiative. The initiative includes performances and puppet-making workshops in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and schools throughout New York City. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age.
CPC Seniors Visit USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center On August 21st, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center took 60 older adults to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing on National Senior Citizenship Day. Many participants had limited opportunities to explore beyond their neighborhood due to language barriers and safety concerns. The outing aimed to introduce them to the city's broader offerings.
CPC Senior Housing's Summer Carnival Draws Over 250 Residents On August 10th, CPC Hong Ning Senior Housing and 64 Norfolk Senior Housing held a summer carnival at CPC One for over 250 older adults and their families. The event featured a range of fun activities, including local eats, a photo booth, and games to celebrate with older adults and their families. Thank you to Po Wing Hong for their sponsorship. Wayne Ho, our President and CEO, was featured and emphasized the importance of nonprofits leading with their values to promote equity and opportunity both externally and internally.
CPC Unveils New Mural Celebrating Unity in Diversity On August 12th, CPC partnered with AAPI artist Ji Yong Kim on a mural that celebrates our diverse community. The mural showcases the various languages spoken and the types of food enjoyed by our community members. It also reflects CPC's core values and the activities offered at our centers.
CPC Presents at Symposium on Supporting Immigrant Communities On August 14th, Wayne Ho, CPC’s President & CEO, participated as a panelist in the symposium “60 Years of Community Action – Renewing Our Commitment to Ending Poverty in NYC,” hosted by the Department of Youth & Community Development. During the panel, Wayne highlighted CPC’s role in empowering immigrant families by providing essential support and opportunities that promote self-sufficiency and well-being.
CPC Partners with Marsh McLennan Agency on Back-to-School Drive On August 6th, CPC partnered with the Marsh McLennan Agency on a back-to-school drive at CPC Community School at P.S. 94.
