Opinion

Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW day)

Today, Volunteering Tasmania staff around the state participated in WOW day.

There are 40,000 SES volunteers across Australia who each year collectively provide around a million hours of their time to help communities in times of natural disasters and emergencies.

WOW day is a day of recognition and appreciation where the dedicated work of State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers is celebrated across Australia. Find out more here.

Adrienne Picone, our CEO, wrote a blog piece about WOW day, and emergency volunteering:

"Trained volunteers are key to emergency management in Australia but nationally the trend is seeing numbers of formal volunteers declining while more are putting up their hands to be involved informally."

If you missed it...

International Volunteer Managers’ Day

5 November

Volunteering Tasmania held events around the state, to recognise the importance of managers of volunteers.

The Volunteering Tasmania High Tea, held in the Premier’s Reception Room, welcomed around 30 attendees, including the Premier himself.

In the North West, Volunteering Tasmania hosted a Health and Wellness session, with morning tea and a pamper station.

In Launceston, managers of volunteers were treated to a morning tea at the stunning Franklin House.

Volunteering Tasmania reaccredited Employer of Choice

This month, Volunteering Tasmania was awarded reaccreditation of their Employer of Choice status. Special note was made regarding the range of strategies to support and engage with staff.

Volunteering Tasmania has held Employer of Choice status since 2011.
