Step 2 - The Duty of the States - What You Can Do!
In our last newsletter we had an article on Nullification. KrisAnne spoke to us at a Planning/Board meeting and gave us several documents to read to get us up to speed on what this is and how it works. KrisAnne has just completed two articles on this subject, putting it into language that is much easier to read and follow. The Florida Legislature begins Committee Hearings next week; in particular a
Select Committee on Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will meet at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012 in Room 412K in the Senate Office Building. KrisAnne is composing a letter that can be used as is, or as a sample. We will put out a newsletter tomorrow evening. We are asking our members to 1) email, mail, fax this letter to their state representatives, state senators, and Governor Scott (I will include contact information with the letter) 2) make phone calls to their offices. 3) pass this information along to anyone who is concerned about the implementation of the Healthcare act. 4) If possible, go to Tallahassee on Monday , December 3rd, visit the offices of the the committee members and your senator and representative; stay for the committee hearing meeting,
We are telling our elected officials that we do not want them to set up a state health exchange. Below is a short explanation of what the exchanges are expected to do:
The health exchanges, which are scheduled to open their doors in 2014, will create online marketplaces where individuals and small businesses can find more affordable insurance plans. Uninsured Americans whose incomes range from 100% to 400% of the federal poverty level will be eligible for federal subsidies.
